Food Processor recs

My food processor, that I never really liked, now needs a new bowl and cover, so I am in the market for a new one : I am in need of some recommendations. There seem to be a ton out there and I don't want to buy a dud. I want it to have at least an 8 cup capacity and be easy to take apart to clean. I would love it to be able to make nice nut/seed butters and shred things like cabbage (my old one was supposed to do this, but I could never get it to work right). We don't have a ton of money right now so I am not in the market for something pricey like a vitamix. Something reasonably priced would be outstanding! Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Beth

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "reasonably priced"... I love my Kitchenaid FP. I got the large one, which comes with 2 different size work bowls - the big one (12 c, I think) for big projects and the little one which is great for chopping herbs or making a cup of mayo. I got it as a wedding gift, but Amazon has it right now for about $150.

I would prefer to spend $100 or less.

Have you checked craigslist? I got mine (unused in the box) for $30. Its a Black&Decker 10-cup and I make hummus and salsa and pesto, etc. and I've chopped nuts... never tried salds or cabbage. I really like the one I have. I've used it about 3-4x/wk for about 1.5yrs and its still running strong.

My mom paid about $200 or something for their top o the line brand one (can't remember, Cuisinart maybe??) and it works very well too. I don't know how often she uses hers, or for what.

edit: here's the one i have http://www.target.com/dp/B000MIKT7Y/...%20watt&page=1

I have a cuisinart and I paid about $100 for it a few years ago. I always use it to shred cabbage and make nut butters. I have yet to find anything it can't do. It is plenty powerful, but the plastic bowl and lid aren't the best. I use mine 3 or 4 times a week and after 3 or 4 years of owning it, I need to replace the plunger for the feeding shute. The plunger part is broken so I have to feed the food in very gently.

It works very well, but I don't love it and I'm not sure if I would buy another one.

The large capacity Hamilton Beach one (the one with the big chute, that can take whole tomatoes) was excellent. My sister broke the lid and we can't get a replacement part, which sucks. However, it was around $40 four years ago--best $40 ever. It shred like a dream, could chop anything, etc etc. If only I could get a replacement lid!

Right now I have a cheapo $30 processor. It's okay, but it doesn't do shredding very well. I miss my Hamilton beach.

ETA: Similar to this one

I have the cuisinart and like it a lot. It was $100 at Bed, Bath and beyond a few months ago, I used their 20% off coupon and then got a manufacturer's rebate of $10, so it ended up at $70. It does shred and slice. I haven't tried nut butters yet.

We have Cuisinart, I have the small version which is really handy. The Cuisinart DLC-10S is a small food processor that can hold up to seven cups. I don't know what is your budget, but I think it's worthwhile to look around in a shopping guide and shop for a good deal on a well rated Kitchen Aid or Cuisinart.

I have this one. I have been through several food proccesors in my time and i have yet to work this one too hard. for 40 bucks, it does a good job.
It also has a shredding disc that works well.

I got my Cuisinart for my birthday, after coveting my MIL's. I love it! I used it last night, actually.

I have a Cuisinart as well. Haven't tried shredding cabbage but I often use it for shredding potatoes and onions which it does very well. The only thing I don't like about it are the little "vent holes" in the handle part, which stuff can get into sometimes. I normally hand-wash it but maybe putting it in the dishwasher would fix that, will have to try it.

I used to have an inexpensive Hamilton Beach that served me well, but I mostly used the grater on it, and made hummous.

I got a Kitchen Aid for our wedding, and that one also works very well. I have the one mentioned above with 3 bowls and a juicer. It gets used most for the juicer because DH makes margaritas and juices the limes with it. But everything I have made with the processor has turned out great.

the hamilton beach food processor was consumer reports best buy, iirc.
