Not thrush, but yeast in crotch

I've found yeast in my DD's vagina and nothing seems to be helping. I've given her probiotics, kept her very dry (we EC and do CD) and taken probiotics myself.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this? And more importantly, is it dangerous or painful to her?

I'm not a fan of over washing or over treating, but I don't want this to develop into anything more serious.

Are you sure it is yeast? I ask bc we battled what I thought was yeast for quite a while, when actually it was excema. I have since met another person who had the same thing happen to her.

If it is yeast, I have heard grapefruit seed extract is helpful.

Grapefruit seed extract is very helpful. It would let you know right away if it was yeast as well. Just mix a few drops in a couple ounces of water. Dip a cotton ball in and wipe down the area when you change her or after she goes (when ECing). It should clear up very quickly if it's yeast.

I don't have any reason to think its excema, but I hadn't thought it could be anything other than yeast.

Will definitely give the grapefruit seed extract a try.

Thanks!

Are you doing anything special to clean your CDs? I know yeast can survive quite a lot and it could be respreading to her through the dipes. Boiling/sanitize cycle or bleach should kill it.

Another great remedy for yeast-applying plain yogurt directly to the rash at diaper changes. Basically just use it like a rash cream. It always worked best for us if we strained the yogurt first, so it went on thicker, and had less moisture.

As for the dipes, if you don't use bleach (I don't), you can put a cup or two of vinegar or hydrogen peroxide (non-chlorine bleach). You can also try a teaspoon or two of tea tree oil in the wash too.

I don't use bleach as everything I've read has advised against that for CD. But I will definitely try the vinegar or maybe the tea tree oil. I would be surprised if it was that only because we do them on hot and our laundromat's dryers are very hot (like so hot I melted 3 pairs of sneakers last week...) But there's no harm in giving that a try in addition to some topical treatments.

I just want to be sure we address it. I would hate it if she was hurting or itching because of it. Sorry if that's tmi.

People put the GSE in the wash too, to sanitize all the dipes.

I had no reason to think it was excema either, but none of my yeast treatments worked (even OTC lotramin) and so finally I decided to treat it like excema and it went away.

Why do you think it's yeast? They can have plenty of white smega in the vaginal area which is normal.

Being in skin care, the best natural way to go is straight tea tree oil, 2-3 times a day. I have used this on my kids faces, so it is not too harsh, even though it smells strong. You can find this at a regular drug store, and even Walmart...you may want to call around before you go on a hunt, just to make sure.

Yeast is spotted red bumps, eczema is not very common in that area, but possible. Tea Tree Oil, actually helps with both issues, so you can't go wrong there.
