Using RRP pattern -- newbie questions

Thread Starter
I am working up the nerve to try making dipes with RRP. (My sewing skills are very very basic!) I have lots of questions:

-What is your favorite thing to stuff them with?
-If you make a custom insert, how do you do it?
-Or do you make them as fitteds? If so, what do you do differently?
-Will any elastic work or do I need the Stretchrite Knit elastic? (And is the Stretchrite available just online? Where do you get it?)

Sorry for all the questions! TIA for taking the time to respond!

I make fitted diapers out of cotton knit and use french terry as the insert. I use bathing suit elastic instead of the knit elastic. I don't recommend braided elastic. I use bathing suit/swimsuit elastic because it stands up to washing in hot water better than knit or braided elastic. Both should be available at local fabric shops. Buy it by the yard, not in packages.

I just use tri-folded wash clothes as inserts. I love my RRP. I have more of them in my stash than anything else.

I made a couple of fitteds with this pattern, but next time I'll make pockets, just for quicker drying time and for versatility of soaker absorbency.

anyone use this pattern for a newborn...what would you stuff it with for a newborn?

I make all mine fitteds and use 6 layers of flannel inside -- I don't seem to have any problem with drying (and am too lazy to stuff diapers...). I have used them for a newborn, but she was 9 lbs and gained very quickly. The cut is so trim in general that it's not too lumpy with the extra folded over. As you can tell, I'm a big fan of the RRP!
