ANyone here have an electric tankless water heater??

We are considering getting a tankless water heater. It would need to be electric.

We have hard water, but do have a water softener system. Would a tankless water heater still allow us to have soft water? What about mineral build-up in a tankless?

Any and all information, suggestions and advice are gratefully accepted!!

I thought all the tankless ones were gas, so I am very interested in hearing replies to your query.

We opted against an electric tankless heater because we felt it was not going to pay off, efficiency wise. Are you looking for a whole house heater, or one for a soaking tub or whatever? That will make a difference. Supposedly they are not so great for whole house heaters.

Please check thathomesite.com for more info on these. That site is amazing for home renovation info. There are a bunch of plumbers on there with info on the heaters. They don't all agree, but you will come away well informed to make a decision on what to get IME.

My grandparents just built a little cabin next door to us and it has an electric tankless water haeter in it... it worked fine for the first couple months but last weekend while they were down, it just randomly stopped... So, thus far, we're not overly impressed.... The folks who built the thing are supposed to be coming by to check on that and a couple other things that are wierd/wrong, but we haven't seen them, yet...

I read something on the site I linked to above that tankless can get hard water buildup inside and hard water is not a good idea - so to me that means softener before piping into the heater. Does this answer your original question? Not sure.
