Can you help me find a book too?

This didn't ring any bells for the children's librarian, but I'm still hoping to find this book I remember for DS.

Chapter book, maybe with some pen and ink illustrations. I read it as a child, so that would have been mid-70's. Two children who live in a dessert ranching sort of area. They find/befriend a stegosaurus. That's about all I remember. Can anyone come up with the title?

Boy, sure sounds like it! You must be better at google than I. Though I admit when the children's librarian didn't have any clue about what it, I did mostly give up. Off to see if maybe the library system really does have it, or to buy it if need be.
