You Guys are SO Good at Finding Books...Help ME?

I love this! All these found books has inspired me to ask for help as well.

The book I'm looking for is a children's chapter book. Its about a girl who goes on a trip with her parents and is left alone to explore the ocean. I think she meets a boy there. I KNOW she meets a talking octopus who teaches her and her friend even more about the ocean via snorkeling.

I think it was a Scholastic/Apple published book with possibly a salmon colored cover.

That kind of reminds me of a book from my childhood I've been trying to find. I don't think they're the same, though, because I don't remember another child being in mine, and I don't think the girl in mine was snorkelling; I think she was somehow given the ability to breathe underwater. But she did meet some kind of talking sea creature who was her guide. In yours, did the girl see "mer-mer maids" (or "murmur maids" - I can't remember the spelling), which looked like manatees?

No. I don't think its that fantastic. Its pretty scientific and realistic minus the talking octopus part.

Gosh, I hope SOMEONE remembers this book at some point...

Found this by doing an extensive google search:

Coral's Reef by Dee Scarr

Gr 3-5 Not much of a story here, but this book is packed with information about sea life. Two children on the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean understand that by patiently and quietly watching they can see unexpected and rare species of sea life. While snorkeling they are able to observe animals use astonishing ways to gather food and to protect themselves. The children's mentor is a talking octopus, a silly device that can be overlooked when considering how much interest this book will have for readers addicted to scuba diving or snorkeling.
Here's the link.

Thanks! It's nice to dust off my librarian skills every once in a while.
