A little perturbed with American Baby...

Thread Starter
I was sitting in the pedi office yesterday and picked up an American Baby magazine. On the cover it says "Thne Surprising Benefits of Bottle Feeding" - and I thought WHAT? So I turn to the article and it says "Bottlefeeding 101: 10 Things to Know About Bottle Feeding" and it goes on to give some stupidly obvious bottle-feeding advice.

But what's up with the cover line - "Surprising Benefits" - turns into "10 Things to Know" - talk about misleading and confusing...

AOL is always doing stupid stuff like that. Like "Toddler does x,y,z amazing feat" and you read the story and the kid is 6.

Yeah, that's why I don't read that mag (or any other mainstream one) anymore. It just gets my blood boiling. They won't listen to reason so best to ignore it.

AB does that ALL the time-there was some sleep article in there and it was just barely-disguised Ferberizing. (BTW, the originator of the Ferber method hates both the term "Ferberizing" and "Ferber Method" and says that his way is JUST ONE OF MANY that should be considered when solving sleep problems!)

I saw that magazine in my gyno's office recently. The title on the front annoyed the crap out of me, but when I flipped to the article and it was just obvious how-to stuff related to bottlefeeding. I "dropped" the magazine behind a table. Then there was another in the exam room...which I "dropped" directly into the trashcan. It was misleading and just plain annoying.

american baby runs with the pack

I have read some of the articles in American Baby and definitely got annoyed with their general accepted practices in the US. I am wondering though have they even spent any time on bfing?

AB is basically a mouthpiece for the formula companies, notice all their ads in there? They are always doing articles like that. They stink.

Yeah this. I don't really think of it as a real magazine. It's just a collection of ads with some copy between that points you to the products. How else could they always give it away for free?

I put it in the same category with the "helpful" child-development packets put together by baby food companies.
