Photo Editing Software

Right now, I'm just using the basic, comes-with-the-camera software to edit my digital photos. It does the basics like resize, crop, red eye removal, b&w, but I want to learn to do some cool stuff with my pictures. For example, I love the black & white photos where you can pull out one bold color from the scene.

What other unique and creative things do you do with your pictures and what programs do you use? I'm not opposed to buying a program, although I'd be really interested in something that's free or cheap!

I would love your advice and suggestions!

GIMP is free

I haven't used it for photos, I used it for smilies but it is pretty good and it is free.

DH loves Photoshop but it's stresses me out! I like picnik.com for free and easy to use online software. It will let you b&w and then show color only in a selected area. I like to fade out the edges a bit - that's pretty much my fav thing to do w/photos.

Will definitely check out Gimp and picnik. Photoshop scares me for sure-it's pricey and I don't think I'd be able to use most of the cool options.

Anyone else want to chime in?

I use picnik quite a bit. They recently began charging for some editing techniques that were once free. You can still do the basics no charge, though.

My dd uses fotoflexor.

OK, I went to picnik.com today and fell in love! This is exactly what I was looking for and the help/forums are great resources for new ideas and techniques. I even upgraded to the premium service for $25/year. I thought that was a pretty good deal. Thanks for the suggestion!

Picnik rules! I am a total addict. You will not regret the $25.00 you just spent!
