Catholics: A question about Godparents

My husband's aunt is my son's Godmother. Three years ago it seemed like a good choice. In the past year she has put my husband through hell and we really don't want anything to do with her. Her actions are as un-Christian as one can get. On the surface, we no longer consider her David's Godmother. Is there something I can do through the Church to strip her off that "title?" It's easy to say, "well, just name someone else and forget about it," but if there is an official way to do this through the Church then I want to do it. I will call them, but I wanted to ask friendlier people first.

Unfortunately, no. The official records can't be changed.

But I do believe in practice you can have another godparent. In other words, you can seek someone out to be your child's godparent who meets the church's requirements, but the person's name would not appear on any official records.

3 of the 4 godparents for my children were not present at their baptisms. We had proxies stand in. I also do not believe it is possible to have the official record changed, you could always add a godfather for your child so they have one godparent that the family is in contact with.

Bummer. We do have a godfather who was present at the Baptism, but the church doesn't recognize him and wouldn't put his name on the certificate because he doesn't go to Mass enough. But, I can't dismiss the godmother who is no longer Catholic or any type of Christian person. Another Oh well. In my eyes she is no longer the godmother anyway. I was just hoping to make it official. Thanks for the responses.
