Long, young baby + short mama?

My third baby is now 9 weeks old, 17#, and 26 inches long. He has a very long torso. So far, I've been carrying him in a carrier my friend's mom makes. I don't know the baby carrying terminology very well, but it's a soft fabric carrier with padded straps for the shoulders and another padded strap for the hips. It fastens with buckles and is very simple to put on/take off (even allows you to lay baby down once he's asleep very easily). It does a much better job distributing weight to the hips than the Bjorn but is not as supportive and padded as the Ergo. For my second, I used my friend's mom's carrier for a long time (6 months or more), and then moved right to the Ergo. But this boy is so heavy I can't really carry him very comfortably in there any more. I tried him in the Ergo but he started crying as soon as I spread his legs that wide. My friend tried him sideways in the Ergo (both legs out one hole) but he hates that position anyway so that didn't work either.

Any suggestions for things to try? I haven't had much luck handling the logistics of some carriers (the Moby was entirely too much fabric for me to deal with, for instance). But at this point I just have to find something that works because I've got two other kids to keep up with!

Thanks for any help!

What about a shoulder sling that allows the baby to lie in a cradle position? I'm very short and DD is about 25 inches. She loves being cradled in our ring sling, hotsling, and kangaroo carrier.

This is the Kangaroo one we have:

It's my favorite out of six slings and I still put our baby to sleep at night with it.

I would suggest a Pikkolo or a Connecta, or a CatBird Baby mei tai. These have the ability to narrow at the base so that baby can ride legs-out comfortably at an early age, without having to be froggied and without having to do a huge straddle he's not ready for. A two-shoulder carrier will give you more ability to be hands-free as baby is more secure than in a one-shoulder carrier, and you get more mobility in your arms.
