Free Baby Turtle Crochet Pattern!

My amazing 13yo created the most adorable baby turtle- she created the pattern all by herself! She actually made two of them- one for the new big brother next door, and one either to keep or give to a family friend (she hasn't decided yet.)

I hope to add pictures soon, if I can figure out how to do it. Probably she can figure it out even if I can't. She wants to share the pattern directions as well (THAT much I can do without help! )

Bottom (make one- she used cream colored yarn):
Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (12 st)
Round 3: (1 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (18 stitches)
Round 3: (2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (24 stitches)
Round 4: (3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (30 st)
Round 5: (4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (36 st)
Fasten off.

Top (make one- she used a varigated yarn):
Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (12 st)
Round 3: (3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times (15 st)
Round 4: (4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times (18 st)
Round 5: (5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times (21 st)
Round 6: (6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times (24 st)
Round 7: (7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times (27 st)
Round 8: (8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times (30 st)
Round 9: (9 sc, 2 sc in each sc) 3 times (33 st)
Round 10: (10 sc, 2 sc in each sc) 3 times. (36 st)
Fasten off.

Head (make one, unless you want to make a mutant turtle- she used green yarn):
Round 1: 6 sc into magic circle
Round 2: 2 sc into each sc (12 st)
Round 3: (3 sc, 2 sc into next sc) 3 times (15 st)
Rounds 4 and 5: sc in each sc around
Round 6: sc, (decrease) 2 times, sc in each sc around (13 st)
Round 7: sc, (decrease) 2 times, sc in each sc around (11 st)
Round 8: sc, (decrease) 2 times, sc in each sc around (9 st)
Round 9: sc, (decrease) 3 times, sc in each sc around (6 st)
Rounds 10 and 11: sc in each sc around.
Fasten off.

Tail (make one- she used green yarn):
Round 1: 3 sc in magic circle
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around (6 st)
Rounds 3 and 4: sc in each sc around.
Fasten off.

Leg (make 4- she used green yarn):
Round1: 6 sc in magic circle
Rounds 2, 3, and 4: sc in each sc around (6 st)
Round 5: (knee shaping) decrease over 3 stitches, 1 sc, 3 sc in next stitch, 1 sc. (6 st)
Round 6: sc in each sc around.
Fasten off.

As soon as we can figure out how to upload pics from the digital camera (which involves first locating batteries for said camera.....) we'll get the pics online. Now I just need to figure out where I can upload the photos TO. The last time I uploaded photos was onto websites that no longer support that (ivillage, then yahoo.)

Once you find your batteries ...

Photobucket
Picassa
Flickr

I'm sure there are others, but those are the three I see most often.

Also, how did you manage to take the photos without batteries for the camera?

We took photos on my cell phone (we? who am I kidding? I can't figure out how to use that thing. DD2 took photos with my phone.) But we can't seem to figure out how to get the photos from the phone onto anything else.

My dad has an actual digital camera, and knows how to use it. I've actually used that camera in the past, back before we moved (4 years ago) and I knew where the wire was to connect the camera to the computer.

Hopefully I'll get some photos up later this week.

Ahh. In that case, I hope your camera isn't like mine and you CAN'T upload the photos. : We have pix from last Christmas that DD's Grandpa had to see on the tiny little cell phone screen because we can't download them.

I made this little guy last night!! I had some great bulky, varigated green yarn that I didn't know what to do with, and along came this wonderful pattern! It whipped up so quickly, with bulky yarn and a K hook, I did the whole thing start to finish in a couple of hours. I usually have a hard time with construction on animals, but this was really easy to construct.
Thanks so much!! :

depending on your phone carrier... you could also send a pix message to an email address (i know you can do this with verzion) to get the pics off the camera phone.

Thanks for the reminder- I think DD2 has figured out how to upload photos from the camera into my dad's computer, and then one of us should be able to figure out how to get them online from there.

Waiting for pics here, too. I want to make my oldest niece a turtle for Christmas and have been searching lots of patterns. You should be so pleased with your sweet girl!
