DD's teeth

DD's 2 front teeth almost look yellow in some spots. You can only notice by looking very closely. What is that? Should I be worried? I try to rub them with a rag daily but it's a real struggle.
the bottom ones don't from what I can tell she will hardly let me get a good look. She's 13 months.

I just took my 23 month old son to the dentist yesterday and he has the same issue. The dentist told me it was just an enamel defect that he was born with. She said his teeth are hard and there is no sign of decay so the discoloration isn't anything to worry about. I, too, try my best to get it off everyday but there are still a couple of spots that aren't bright white. But, knowing that there is no decay lifted a huge weight off of my shoulders. Also, he still nurses through the night and has perfect teeth so I don't buy into the idea that nursing causes cavities. I was so pleased that this dentist didn't pressure me to stop nursing like so many others do. She suggested wiping his teeth afterwards but realizes that it isn't always possible when he's asleep. I always brush his teeth really well before bed and after breakfast in the mornings though.

I don't think you have anything to worry about but if you start seeing those turning brown or see any tiny holes appear I'd take your baby to the dentist. If you have a Wild About Smiles near you I'd try them. That is where I took my little one and they were GREAT!

Oh that makes me feel better. It's weird it's only on the top teeth. DD nurses throughout the night as well. She eats a lot of fruit so I worry about the sugar.I need to get started with a toothbrush too. Wild about smiles holistic?

No, it's not holistic. I couldn't find any holistic dentists in TN unfortunately (not within a 2-3 hour drive anyway).

FWIW, my son's teeth started with yellowing only too (read my thread for more info) and my very pro-nursing dentist also said enamel defect, but not to stress at 12 months (never suggested weaning either). just be aware, that in some kids the yellowing CAN progress to active decay, and fast, like it did with my son.

Is there anything you did with your son that helped his teeth? She also has white spots mixed with the yellow.

HEHE nevermind just found your story(didn't think it was going to be so easy to find)

Thanks for the advice Sande. I know that enamel defects can make teeth more vulnerable to decay so I will continute to be extra vigilant with my youngest DS's teeth. I'm going to search for your thread so hopefully I will learn some new things to add to my program for him.
