American Girl Birthday Party Ideas wanted

Thread Starter
My turning 7 year old wants an American Girl Party- I want to do it as non -commercial as possible and have come up with the idea of a timeline game where they arrange the girls in time line order- having the girls dress up as their favorite american girl and a tea party. Any other ideas that would make this a good experience would be very welcome- any ideas for favors or the cake?? Help please?

I like the timeline idea! I just looked up the AG website and they actually have a whole section on parties, including game ideas and advice. You might want to see what you can snag from there.

Some favor ideas:
  • cookies/cupcakes to decorate like faces: have various candies for eyes, mouths, hair and let each guest make a "cookie/cupcake like me" face. (or you could do this instead of a cake)
  • a little purse with "money" from various eras (I'm guessing you could print out bills and coin images from internet sources)
  • tea cups--one of my former roommates hosted tea parties for her students. She would collect tea cups and saucers from thrift shops, then each girl got to take hers home at the end of the event

We've done this and had a great time. We made homemade butter, sock dolls and played some pioneer games. The girls all dressed up and talked about their outfits if they wanted to. The sock dolls were easy but took some concentration so we worked o them for alittle while. The butter recipe will be online. We save little "baby food" jars, a friend helped us out with that. The girls (and a few boys!) had a great time.
