My poor nephew

My brother and SIL had a baby last August, and I was so happy that they left him intact :. Well recently SIL told my mom that they waited to long to circ him then couldn't find a doctor who would do it before a year, so they are waiting until after his birthday to get it done, and he has to go under general anesthesia . My mom was shocked and voiced her opinion on how it's a needless procedure, especially at that age! SIL said she wanted him to look like dad and older brother . My mom said that SIL did sound like she was second-guessing their decision, so I'm hoping that they change their mind. I will see them in a couple of weeks, and hopefully by then I will have a new (intact!!!) baby boy and that will be a conversation starter. I just can't believe they are even considering it.

I hope that your sil does reconsider. Putting a child under GA is dangerous and to risk it for cosmetic surgery is just something I cant wrap my head around.

I know, SIL even mentioned how dangerous it is, and all the risks, and still thought it was worth it to circ him so he would look like his dad and brother!

You could always suggest she leaves him intact so he could look like his cousin.

Honestly, circ aside, gen anesthesia is no joke. That's an etreme measure to take, and in this case I'm actually shocked someone would agree to it.

maybe make a couple of jokes about, are they going to get him a face lift or a nose job to look more like them, too, or can that wait til he's 5?

It's so sad that they're willing to take the risk of general anesthesia to cut off a fully functioning part of them so that he'll look "like" them.

Another story to add, my DH is intact, and has no idea whether his Dad and brothers are intact or not. So that's a really weird reason, since he'll likely never know.

What was her motivation for keeping him intact in the first place? I'd play up that angle, whatever it was. Also, GA is such a big deal. Why do that?

That is ridiculous. Ask most men about their father's penises and I can bet you that most men don't care to know about their dad's penis or their brother's penis. Most men just don't sit around comparing them. Plus, is she also going to ensure that the surgeon takes a good look at daddy's penis first b/c no two penises look alike even if they are circed. She might need to also consider getting some hair implanted down there b/c the boy won't have hair for another 15-18 years.

I saw SIL this weekend and last night at dinner we started talking about circ'ing. I don't think she's going to do it : : : :.

I have a firend who couldn't circum her son...he was a premie. They were going to have to pay for it once he was able, but just couldn't afford it. He is now 14 and doesn't give two thoughts about it. My firend just explained how he needed to clean a little different than his Dad does...no biggie.

Also when I was having my 2nd dd, my husband was with her to get her hearing test done...while he was waiting he saw the DR.s circum. a newborn...he told me about it and said that after seeing that, he would never put his child through that. he was for it at one time...and that changed his mind. He said he wanted to run over to the Dr. and tell him to stop...he said it was terrible.

I don't understand why people would want to do this to their kids...because Dad has it???? It's not like they walk around naked for all to see it...

just heartbroken...hope the SIL changes her mind

guess I didn't read last post...yay!!! hope she stays strong.
