I am doing a presentation in my human sexuality class about circumcision. I am hoping to do it in a slant against circ. I found an article against the claim of circumcising and HIV status.

This is what I can't find:
1. I need something that shows that being intact doesn't mean you are more capable of catching disease (HIV, STDs).
2.I can't find a website I had before that showed the benefits of a foreskin to women and had the gliding action and stuff. I think this would really be helpful to understand the function.
3. I want more pictures of different races that show an intact penis both erect and flaccid.

Can you guys help me please?

Not allowed to link to it, but are you talking about sexasnatureintendedit? (re: benefits to women, gliding action, etc)

Check out the 'Circ and HIV' thread that was just bumped up. There are lots of links and discussion there. If you want PM me for clarification on posts I made in that thread.

Dr Christianne Northrup wrote a good article with a title "How circumcision may be affecting your love life". It was available at www.boystoo.com .

Let us know how your presentation went. I find it exciting when someone has the opportunity to do this, and also has the moxie to carry it through. You can reach so many people at once. Good luck, and kudos to you.

When you get the opportunity to talk to young people, it's so refreshing because they GET IT! They are also very interested in straight talk about sex. There is a statute of limitations on the issue but when a boy turns 18, he has grounds to sue his circumciser. I don't think there is much time to act though, maybe a few years. I think this bit of info needs more publicity. I believe a great many circumcisions happen because parents are not given truly informed consent. (Which does not mean that I think it should be a parent's right to chose if they ARE given truly informed consent! I just think that a lot less of them would be done if parents knew the whole truth.)

That might be really interesting to talk about men suing when they are 18 and winning cases. I think that it really is important. I'll pm ya.
This site has really interesting STD info by country with possible sociological reasons. http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/ind...419&Itemid=177

Sometimes humor is a real attention grabber! I don't know if you could use a sound byte from the Penn and Teller episode or not, but that might help ease the tension by introducing humor. Even if you can't use it, you might provide a printed handout with some links and include that one. You might also include some religious links regarding intactness (I'm not allowed to discuss that here but you can do some online searching).

I have a bunch of NoCirc pamphlets you could use to pass out if you want them and if there's enough time to get them from me to you. Otherwise, you can download them from many of the NoCirc websites (I know the CO one has them).

Thank you all for your help. My presentation went really well and I actually ran a couple of people out of the class with the circ video . I got a pretty good grade on it but she took off because I gave just the "con" side and not the "pros" side of circ. I really want to email her and tell her there is no pro to circumcision and she needs to be happy that I danced around why uti's may be more prevalant. Other than that I think I changed some minds about it and hopefully they make an informed choice.

Yes, you should email her, and explain that there is absolutely no 'pro' side to circumcision.

And congratulations !!!

Congratulations on your presentation! We need more people to speak out and you should be so proud of your work!

I wonder if you had presented the topic of female circumcision if your teacher would have required the "pro" side???
I'm wondering if she wanted the perceived pro side because she is the parent of a circumcised son? Just a thought.
Anyway, congrats!

congrats! i'm thinking the 'pro' side could always be presented as 'some parents think XYZ' or 'some people place a higher priority on ___ than ___' or some such, then you can highlight the myths/misinformation, as well as the selfish and misguided reasons some parentschoose circ.

The 'straw man' idea sounds positive to me...

I think her response, especially the last paragraph, was quite positive. Asa teacher, she is trying to help you be a better presenter. You will always be more persuasive if you acknowledge other points of view and then give some rebuttal, than to only seem to tell one side of the story - makes you SEEM biased. I think she would be receptive to a few comments back from you on the points she raised (all rebuttable). Just seems like you could inform her that one extra step, since she has probably already got her mind opened from the other things you presented.

GREAT WORK!!!!

Most of those on there are insignificant. A decrease in urological problems??? What does that even mean. I honestly just left it alone because I don't think I can change her mind.
