what does black poo mean?

what does black poo mean? DD is having it (in addition to a bleeding bum rash--haven't gotten back to normal since the anti-biotics)--though we did take avacado out and she gained soem weight? (related? I'll never know)

Is it truly black? I understood that black poo can mean intestinal bleeding. I'd call the ped if it's really black, and not from say grape juice or something.

I agree. If it's black-black, it could be serious and I'd call the doctor.

In the absence of any very dark coloured foods, I'd probably want to check with your dr.
It sounds gross, but can you inspect it to see if it is food particles, or the whole thing?

Is she taking any iron supplements? We have my youngest dd (almost 19 months) on iron supplements since she has iron deficiency anemia that was not responding to diet. Her poo turned black almost immediately. Freaked me out at first, since nobody warned me that might happen.

yes she's been having blueberries! I should assume it's that then right? I was trying to think of what could turn it black and couldn't think of anything--wow all the intestinal bleeding thing is scary--I bet it's the blueberries right? if it was that then every last part of it would be black? not just parts right? becasue i think there were two circle part that were more yellowish today--makes me feel better..thanks

haha don't you all always inspect your kids' poo? (while changing it atleast)

it will more than likely be the blueberries. I took a sample of her poo to the doctors and he said to cut out the blueberries. We did and her poo went back to normal :
Now when we give her blueberries I have to remember her poo will change !!

The first time I gave my dd blueberries I was on here searching black poo. It really sounds like that's all it is for your dd too.

My dd eats alot of blueberries and her poo is often black. Once it rolls off the dipe you see that the dipe is stained a blueberry color, so you could check to see if your lo's dipes are stained a blueberry color just to give you more peace of mind.

Ha ha.. well of course I do.... it's gross and fascinating all at the same time!

When DS eats blueberries, it doesn't turn his whole poo black, but I can see the skins and little seeds mixed in (I don't think he eats enough to get the full colour change yet)
