Cord Stump Still Attached??

Trenton is 3 weeks old today and his cord stump is still very much attached... They said it should come off by about 2 weeks, is it bad that it is still attached? Should I be doing anything to it? I am going to call the pediatrician's office in the morning but I wanted to know what you guys thought...

If it is still attached at 4 weeks, they may use a little silver nitrate to help it detach (a chemical on the end of a swab that cauterizes it). It doesn't hurt and will help it fall off! Nothing to worry about, though!

I wish it would just fall off already!! He is outgrowing the newborn sized diapers but with his stump still attached the smalls won't work because they cover it!

my oldest dd had hers until 7 weeks! it was no big deal, but we did use silver nitrate and it finally fell off but be warned, it stained all of her clothes!

are you cleaning it all the time w/ alcohol or something? If you just leave it alone and don't put anything on it, it will fall off faster than if you clean it. Cleaning just makes it not stink. with the last baby, hers fell off a day before my friend's baby who was almost a month older than mine! She had been religiously cleaning and I hadn't. Makes you wonder!

neither of my kids lost theirs until three weeks. This time I part of it came off at a week and the rest came off sometime around three.

Evie's fell off yesterday, but we hadn't used any alcohol on it. Just goldenseal.

Before we left the hospital they told us to clean it with every diaper change but I kind of stopped because it seemed to anger him and it was a pain to do...
