Ice cream / yogurt maker recommendations needed

I don't know anything about making my own dairy free yogurt or ice cream but I'd like to try. I know lots of people like coconut ice cream and I was hoping I could try to make it and maybe it'd be better than the rice dream stuff.

Does anyone have any machine recommendations? I was looking at the Cuisinart 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice Cream Makers on Amazon and it has good reviews, including one that talks about coconut ice cream.

Anyway, any recommendations or advice appreciated.

I have that ice cream maker. I haven't used it yet (I have been too scared to trial dd with coconut), but it came highly recommended by a friend of mine who has to make all of her ice cream because of a carageenan (sp?) allergy. She uses it for dairy ice cream, but have to imagine it would work well for non dairy as well.

For a yogurt maker I have a Salton. I have only used it to make dairy yogurt, but all it does is keep the culture at a specific temp, so I would imagine it would work well for non dairy as well.

Ok, I have decided to take the plunge and just make her some ice cream and see how she tolerates it. I will report back on how it works out
