Going the course of seeking an annulment...

DH and I signed divorce papers. We go before the judge 4 Aug.
DH wants me to seek an annulment so I can "marry a good Catholic boy who loves [me] like I should be loved and give [me] the children I want".

My question is- do annulments have to be sought in the diocese where the marriage occurred, or can it be sought anywhere?

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

Why not just call up the office responsible for annulments in your current diocese and ask?

Haha, that was my plan tomorrow, but I was also quasi-seeking information from any MDC mamas who may have been where I am.

I believe when my Mom looked to get one she was able to go to her local diocese to get an annulment, with paper work sent from the one she was married in. My Dad refused to sign so she never got one though.

P&L I am so sorry it has come to this for you. I have no advice to give, but I will be praying that your annulment works out, at least your husband wants to give you that.

I'm so sorry P&L. I believe the annulment process is handled in the diocese that you currently reside in. You should check Catholic Answers online for more detailed information, I've found them to be a very reliable resource.

Sorry P&L... :

We've been through the annulment process. It was very frustrating for us, but worth it - obviously. It was handled by our parish priest through our diocese. Though once the paperwork filters through the priest it goes every which way to cover absolutely everything.

Were you married in the church? If not, you don't have to get an annulment, you need to get your marriage declared invalid. I have experience with that, and can answer any questions you have.

For starters, though, when my husband wanted to have his first marriage declared invalid, he started with his parish priest.

When my mom started the annulment process, she did it in the diocese where she was residing, not where she was married. Definitely call your local diocese's marriage tribunal office, and they should be able to help out with all the info you need.

I was married in the Church. DH is not Catholic, though. Not that it matters.

Thanks for the advice, though.

Well... I am moving back home, which is to the diocese where we were married, so it doesn't make a difference now.
