I couldn't answer the poll because neither of my kids have weaned yet. My DD will be 3 1/2 in October, and my DS is 20 months in a few days. I am also pregnant, so I am trying to gently help my DD wean before the baby comes (I have cut her down to first thing in the morning and before bed at night). She has been nursing less and less (some days she asks to read and cuddle in the morning instead of nursing), but then there are days when she asks to nurse more (I usually can get her to drink some water or have a snack in those situations instead of nursing).
So, I guess I can't really help you out except to say that at 3 1/2 and soon to be 2, both of my kids are still nursing!

I didn't do pure CLW with my first. The amount he wanted to nurse was overwhelming and unusually excessive, so I had to cut him down for my sanity and our nursing relationship. (He has sensory quirks and would have nursed 24/7 even as a 4 year old had I let him). I did child respected weaning with him - he was a month shy of 5 years old.

My second (and third) are still nursing. My second is 3.5 years old and has followed a more normal nursing pattern. I've never felt the need to cut her down since it's always been managable. Very recently, she dropped one session so she's down to 2-3 times a day now. I would guess that she will be nursing still a year from now, but we'll see!) My third is just a baby so we're a long way off.

DS was a month past turning 5 when he tried and discovered that he'd forgotten how. He was only nursing if taking a nap, and most not napping, by then. He's now almost 19 and in culinary school.

DD was 7, was down to once/month in those last several months. She's now 10.

DS weaned when he was about 25 months, I was 5 months pg and had no milk left. DD is still enjoying her nursies at 2.5 and probably will for a long time.

It is interesting to see how things change over time. When I started this poll in July, Micah was nursing like crazy! So many times a day, I couldn't count. Now he is down to 2 to 3 times per day TOTAL! AAAAAAAAAND, is sleeping through the night!!!! FINALLY!!!

36 months. In the weeks leading up to the last time she asked to nurse, she would only ask once a day, then every other day, then we were out of town and she went an entire week and it was once a week for a couple weeks. She asked to nurse on her 3rd birthday and then never again. She mentioned it once a month later, but didn't actually nurse that time.

Dd1 was 32 months and I was around 14-16 weeks pregnant when she abruptly weaned. It was a relief because I was done with nursing while pregnant. It made my skin crawl.

Dd2 is not near weaning yet. She'll be 24 months tomorrow.

My first self-weaned somewhere around 18 months. It was so gradual I didn't know it happened. Second will be 3 next week, I'm NAKing her now so who knows when she'll wean! The difference is when first was a baby I WOHFT, now I'm SAHFT.

MY FIRST AND SECOND TANDEM NURSED FOR A YEAR AND THE OLDEST WEANED AT 4 1/2 .
tHE SECOND CHILD WEANED AT 5 (ON HIS BIRTHDAY ) BECAUSE OF FAMILY PRESSURE OR WOULD HAVE NURSED A BIT LONGER.
#3 WEANED AT ALMOST 6 .
#4 IS STILL NURSING AND WILL BE 3 IN DECEMBER!

I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE NURSED SO LONG!

My first one weaned recently at almost 3. My second is 15 months and still going strong... and probably will be forever.

I said early 3's but DD was 3.5.

I want my son to go at least to 3 (largely to get him through flu season) and then I might try to nudge him off. I've about had it with nursing a roving/sleepless toddler.

ETA: I did CLW w/ DD. I just don't know if I can manage that with DS if he goes much beyond 3. Must...get...sleep...

I can't quite vote yet -- we're still nursing at 30 months but I've noticed that DS has slowed way down to just a few times a day now - usually, morning, night and once or twice (very quickly) in between. A few times I've asked him if he wants to nurse and he has actually said no, and that he was busy. We've had a rough spell with food intolerances - I'm on the same diet as he is and I think my already chronically low supply (due to IGT) has dwindled due possibly to less caloric intake by me, the return of my cycles, etc. I ask him if he still gets milk and he says yes, but I don't really know. I was never able to give him more than a total of 4 ounces at a time at my PEAK production so I'm guessing he is only getting a few ounces a day.

I'm a little sad to see our nursing relationship come to an end (it was such a rough journey in the beginning but we persevered!) Weaning is all up to him but I'm also a little sad to think that our particular circumstances may have led the relationship to end a little sooner than it may have otherwise. Then again, it could be just his time though. I'm thankful for the time we've shared!

My son, 21 months, seems to have self weaned this week. He has not asked for milk in four days, which is a record. Previously he'd gone 36 hours once.

I am not sure if he truly was ready or if it has to do with me being pregnant and thus my milk changing. I night weaned him about a month ago and that may also have contributed.

I am mostly happy. All along I wanted him to lead. But it feels like such an abrupt end to me.
