dairy and behaviour?,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi...I just lost the last post that I composed..ugh. Anyhow, I am posting for some help for my 5 year old. He is a dairy lover. He loves milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, and soy milk too. He is a pretty good little guy. But he can be some of the following - hyper (more so lately), brain fog, difficult to reason with, melt downs, focussing issues (teachers want to identify him), has had delayed speech, the school says memory issues, fidgetty. Now, I do know that there are many reasons that all of the above happens but due to his love of dairy I am wondering if that may be it. Is there testing that can be done to determine or is the best method elimination? There may be others that I am not listing but you get a sense of what I am talking about. I have just recently started reading that dairy can be a culprit of what I am talking about, especially for someone who craves it. Is this right? Has anyone else taken dairy out of your child's diet and noticed improvements? how long before you notice changes? It's a scarey thought at removing it as he does love it, and it is a pretty large staple. I would have to remove it from everyones diet for now as well. I am guessing you cut it out cold turkey for a few weeks? what kinds of things to use as alternatives? If you can share any successes with dairy elimination that would be great...and thank you.

Elimination. And also a food journal. Write down everything he eats and drinks and all symptoms, including behavioral. You may find that it's more than just dairy, or that dairy isn't the answer, and you need to eliminate something else as well. The top ones are dairy, gluten, soy, and corn.

For my DS, dairy gave him bedwetting, night terrors, stomach pains, and leg pains and soy gave him a rash on his lip and tantrums for 10 days. There are other foods that are behavioral for him as well. A lot of people find removing dairy and gluten to be a good combination since those are the two hardest to digest. Others find that they have to eliminate dairy and soy, because those two seem like they're related as well. I have lots of recipes on my blog: www.kathysrecipebox.com. We don't do any of the top 4. It can take 2-4 weeks. And if it doesn't get any better, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's not dairy; it could be dairy AND something else. Or it could just be his personality. But a food journal is a big help when you start your journey.
