frustrated and looking for a new pedi

DS had hiw 4-month WBV this monday. he got all shots at the 2-month WBV because i didn't know any better, but in the interim i did a lot of reading and had cause for concern. well this past monday, i brought up my concerns to the pedi and was essentially told i was stupid. i got upset and left. later i got a call from the pedi that i either had to bring DS back for the shots or we would have to pay $400 because they'd already been drawn up or something. some crying ensued, and DH ended up bringing DS back. he didn't have any obvious reaction (which he did have at 2-months), but i still don't think i want to continue with the current schedule. i'm upset because i previously liked the pedi and the office was walking-distance from home. i hate having to find a new doctor, but i hate that they bullied me into allowing DS to have the shots without me feeling 100% comfortable.

this is why i really dislike doctors in general, and why i avoid them for myself at all costs. silly me for not doing the same for DS.

just had to vent, thx for listening

Well first of all, sorry this happened. I've BTDT and have found a new pedi I like better who respects my choices. As for them telling you you *had* to go back and get the shots or pay 400.00, I bet that is a bunch od bull to be honest. When one DOES vax you have to sign a consent form that you recognize the risks...yada yada yada.. It a basic cover their ass form. Any vax should not be drawn up prior to this consent being given and if it is, then that is on them. They have no legal leg to stand on. They bulldozed you and I would file a compliant as well as leave.

I would have said go ahead and send me a 400.00 bill, I won't pay it and you can't make me since I never legally consented to said medical intervention.......for you to assume that I wanted these vaccinations and had them drawn up with no discussion of consent to treatment first is your mistake and your problem. ta ta now

Never allow this to happen again. YOU ARE IN CONTROL of your child's medical care...no one else!! This is a good lesson for you and I'm sure as unpleasant as the experience has been, it will make you stronger and more self-assured when it comes to this topic in the future. Hang in there

I would file a complaint with the insurance company you use and the medical licensing board in your state. What he did was inexcusable and a I'm thinking unethical at best, illegal at worst. I think, just because of the UV level of this individual, I may also speak with an attorney and shell out $30 to have a nasty letter written to the dr. I wouldn't try to get anything out of it, but it may make him think twice before pulling that with another child and parent. ((hugs!)) That really sounds like a horrific experience!

thanks! hopefully it will make me a little better at standing up to people (i'm VERY non-confrontational). they just hit a sore spot with the $$$ claim. i didn't really know what to do, and since they said we had to return THAT DAY i felt stuck. i should have dumped the practice earlier, as i've already divorced one pedi from there, but stupid me i thought this doc was different.
