Dd is 18 months and not vaxed so far. I have researched off and on since I was pregnant with her and overall am hesitant about vaccinating her. DH and I are just starting the discussions together to come to agreement about whether she should get any at all or do some selectively. He has not researched much, but he has a science background and so understands immunology and diseases much better than me. For months he has been saying that kids get too many vaxes nowadays, but I opened the discussion with chicken pox and he thinks she should get the vax for it. He feels the vaccine works in the body the same way as getting the disease naturally, so it is better for her to get the vaccine. This sounds completely wrong to me, but I am just clueless on this subject. Does anyone have any links to how vaccines work vs. getting the disease naturally?
I am arming myself with the ingredients and side effects of the vaccine as well, but want to cover all my bases before I start the discussion again. I am also stating that the life of the vaccine is unknown and she may need a booster when older, but he feels that other vaccines work lifelong so this one likely does as well.
