ugh. external version

i just got back from my external version this morning. it didn't work. baby is still stubbornly (and probably for a DARN good reason) stuck in frank breech position and i'm 37w 4d it was pretty uncomfortable but dh and i were kind of glad for the opportunity to see how we both react to my severe pain (this is our first little one). i was able to breathe and semi-relax through it all and dh only came close to fainting once, although by the end (it only lasted about 20 min, i think) he looked a pukey shade of pale green and says his stomach is still upset hours later. i think i realized though that i'm not going to need to or want to rely on him for focus much once things really get going in labor. i kept focusing on this ugly flower painting above the bed and really wishing there was a grab bar that i could pull on. they kept us for an hour to make sure the baby is doing fine after being so rudely pushed and pulled, and now we're back at home, nesting up a storm again. i think that although it was painful and just super uncomfortable and i have scratch marks all across my belly from the doctor's short nails, the hep-lock that i had to have was the worst part of the whole ordeal!

I had one with DD1. My DD1 didn't flip either BUT...she did end up flipping on her own. So maybe your LO got the idea of what you want her/him to do and will flip too. I also put a bag of frozen peas on her head, along with some of the suggested positioning. I hope your belly feels better soon, mine was sore for a few days!

thanks!
my belly IS pretty sore, especially when it gets pressed on. i think i'll try to "frozen food" remedy tomorrow and see if that gets me anywhere. the more stubborn this little one is though, the more i think that there's a reason he/she doesn't want to flip, and i'm actually starting to feel fairly good about my upcoming vaginal breech birth!

You have plenty of time! Lots of things that you can try, and still a good chance that the baby will flip on its own.

That is interesting that you got to see your DH's reaction to you in pain before the actual birth. Better to find out now. Do you have a doula?

Turn, baby, turn!! :

I heard that babies will gravitate towards gentle heat like a heating pad on a low setting or daddy's hand on the lower part of your belly. My midwife made me stop using my heating pad on my mid-back because she was worried that the baby would scoot up there to find the warmth. Just a thought...

Sorry the EV was not only painful, but unsuccessful. I'm just a few days behind you and my baby just turned. We tried everything in the book this time (except chiropractic as I tried it last pregnancy and it didn't work) and what worked was acupuncture followed by direct moxibustion. Good luck flipping your wee one!

thanks for all the good vibes and suggestions everyone! i think i'll call about accupuncture on monday. dh has been talking down by my pubic symphesis and putting his hand there for a while now, but i do have a heating pad i could pull out... although in this heat i don't know how long i could handle it pinksparklybarefoot: i don't have a doula, i met a few who practice in town and didn't really click with any of them and dh and i decided that it will be a bit out of our price range anyway. my mom will be here... although i'm not sure if i'll be able to take direction from her. luckily my OB is about a crunchy as they come and i feel really comfortable with her. plus, dh and i were talking and he thinks the longer progression of labor (as opposed to the quick intensity of the EV) will let his body adjust to the adrenaline and we both think he'll be fine as long as he remembers to eat plus, i'm typing up a list of very specific things that i think might be helpful for him to do/say/suggest/encourage, etc. so hopefully between my OB and dh (who, to his credit has read both ina may and dr. bradley's books) we'll be good.
