We have 2 cats: Allegro (4 year old male) and Kitty (female and we think she's about 9-10 years old). Recently Allegro has been barfing right after we feed them. Their food always lasts a couple days and we always refill it and they've never seemed to have issues sharing it (but they really don't get along).
Today Allegro barfed while eating the food and we hadn't put in new food for about 2 days. It was really odd and it's not like they were running out. I see poop in each of their boxes (they won't share one box) so I know that he's still passing food just fine.
Is there a reason why this has started up? Has anyone encountered this before?
We've had another issue. They've never seemed to truly get along, and Allegro likes to annoy Kitty. He'll go up and bite her or something and she instantly reacts with a growl or hiss and usually runs away, which is what he wants, because then he'll chase her into our bedroom and under the bed.
It seems like recently it's evolved and now Kitty, I think, is sick of running away and will attack him back or even initiate it (definitely not in her personality). In the past she'd only bat at him, if we had annoyed her a lot and then she'd just run off. He usually just steps back with a bewildered look and chases her. Now though, since she's started literally attacking him, he'll attack back, instead of being passive like he was before.
I've never seen a male and female fight, usually I've only seen males fight each other or females fight each other. I really don't want him to hurt her (she's much smaller than him). Any clues as to maybe why they're acting like this? Is it normal for males and females to fight like this? Any way to get them to stop fighting? We've tried spraying them with vinegar water in a spray bottle, and I admit we haven't done that for awhile, so maybe we should start that up again. What do you all think?
Oh, and they're both fixed. They're not constantly fighting, like right now, one is laying under the couch and the other on top. They've been doing it a lot at night though too. I am also 36 weeks pregnant now, could me getting farther in my pregnancy be affecting them?
