She died for her right to cover...

I havent really heard anything about this in the Western Media...like, at all...which is shocking!!! ...and a huge shame...

but anyway, a young hijab wearing mother in Germany was harrassed by a skinhead and took him to court, when the court ruled in her favor the man pulled out a knife and stabbed her 18 times...her husband was shot by the security guard as he tried to grab and sleazeball, their son is only 3 years old!

Has anyone else cept us Muslims heard about this? How come this was not in the NYT or other large newspapers? Hmm...I have a lot of theories...but anyway

God willing, she's in heaven and God willing her husband gets better so their son will atleast have his father.

OMG that is just awful.

IIRC Muslimah Media Watch had a pretty fair assessment of the coverage (and non-coverage) of the story up.

As the MMW wrote, May God give her peace and grant her paradise.

So very sad!

I did hear the news (Thursday or Wednesday) on NPR, however, I haven't heard it on or in any other "western" news media/ major US news sources. The NPR report mentioned how there was outrage in Egypt about the lack of attention to the story in the European media and questioned how much publicity there would have been if the defendent was a muslim man who attacked a white German woman he had just been found guilty of harassing. It makes me sick.

I hope that her DH and son can come to some peace with such a horrible injustice. I can't imagine...

That is horrible.

It was reported on the cbc website on Tuesday along with a bit of commentary about how little press it is receiving.

The story is horrifying. My heart goes out to her family and her friends, and to the muslim community which must be heartbroken to see this.

It is very sad to see what the world is coming too...

Tragic, and scary. How can anyone think, no matter how crazy they might be, that they can kill someone for having different beliefs?!

How terrible that she was not safe even in a court of law when she should have been able to walk any street dressed as she liked.

How horrible Just really makes me scared to be of a religion that's NOT christian! And the news media NOT covering this tragic, tragic, horrible story is almost as bad as the actual crime I wonder how her husband is doing at this point. What a very sad story.

Blessings to her and her whole family for this unspeakable tragedy.

ETA: I just read the articles hoping to add it to my blog to pay honor to her memory- and it said that she was also 3 months pregnant and that her 3yr old son was in the court room watching this tragedy. How horrible.

It was posted in a small blurb on the NYTimes... basically wire service coverage, nothing special. I actually emailed them and asked why they didn't cover the two hijab hate crimes that occurred that same week... the murder of the pregnant Muslim woman in Germany and the woman in Seattle who had a knife drawn on her and her 6 month old. "Defending America." :

It scares me, to be honest. I think it would be slightly easier to stomach if the woman in Germany hadn't been in court and pregnant... or the woman in Seattle hadn't had her 6 month old with her. Still inexcusable... but I'd much rather people shout things at me or attack me when my kids aren't around.
