Which one-size dipes for us?

Hello,

Please give your opinion on the best one-size diapers for us. We will be cloth diapering our second child (who will arive in about 6 weeks!) from the beginning. With our first we didn't commit to cloth until she was 14 months and she was out of diapers during the day by 18 months. We used FBs for her.

I would prefer to just get one-size diapers, rather than buying lots of different diapers or sizes. This is likely our last child, so I also don't want to spend a lot on a fancy stash.

I don't need them to be cute. I just want them to fit, keep my child dry as best as possible and to be adjustable until this babe is done with them. It would also be nice if they hold up well/hold value so I can sell them later.

One friend recommended Motherease and everyone else I know has only used FBs (but not the one size). I'm expecting this baby will be about 7 lbs and will chunk up like my DD did, then get skinny like she did, but I guess they are all different!

Please share your thoughts on which diapers and why. Thank you for sharing your expertise and opinions!

While I like several of the one-size diapers out there, if I had to choose *one* favorite, it would be the Happy Heinys One Size. I like the microfleece lining inside and the nice big aplix tabs. We've never had a wicking problem either. The HH have one more size setting than some of the other brands too.

Most cloth diapers fit best after about 10 pounds, depending on the build of the baby. Some people use disposable diapers for the first few weeks, until the baby puts on some weight. Others use prefolds or simple fitteds and covers.

Congratulations!!

Yes congrats! DS is 2 months old and we use the one-size covers for him and my 3 year old. Mommy's Touch is a good one and my Blueberries are good too. I would recommend aplix over snaps for a more precise fit. I also don't need anything fancy and was taken aback by the prices for a cover, plus how many sites charge more for covers with designs on them versus solid colors. Usually my children wear clothes so I was happy to save $ by getting solid colors.

Someone in another post mentioned diaperpin.com and I checked it out- they give reviews on all different cloth diapers and I found it really helpful in deciding which AIOs to supplement my stash with. There was one cover that was only in the $7 range and was aplix, but I can't recall which! It was in one of the post within the last day I think...

My favorite pocket one-size is the FuzziBunz one-size - I like that the leg elastic adjusts so you can get it to really fit those tiny newborn chicken legs, and I much prefer snaps b/c they hold up better when you are using them every day for 3 years. Aplix can go bad during that long a usage. Plus, the FuzziBunz PUL is nearly indestructible. Also you get two full inserts, a small and a medium/large. I love love love this diaper. I have seen it on several different size newborns and it really fits!

Most one size diapers don't fit newborns very well, or until they're about 10 pounds or so. I prefer BGs because I feel like I can get a better fit with them. I would actually recommend buying a couple of different brands and seeing which you like best. Some websites also have trial packages that you can try a few kinds and buy what you like.

I would also recommend getting nb diapers in addition to the one-size. You could get 3-dozen prefolds and 6 covers for less than $150.

We really like the Mommy's Touch Easy Clean OS diapers.

my favorite one size covers are blueberry coveralls. there's something about the stretchiness i like. i haven't tried many other one size dipes. i do have some one size diapers from cloth diaper wholesale that have worked out well for us too!

I like the mother ease one size bamboo. My guy started wearing them when he was six weeks old & 13.5 lbs. Before that I had him mostly in prefolds and the few fitteds that I got to try them out. I tried kissaluvs, happy heinies, sandy's organic & a diaper-service style. I liked the mother ease sandy's the best & was intending to do sized fitteds, but the lady at the local baby shop suggested that I try the one size. I've been very happy with them - they're soft, the elastic at the leg isn't too tight (and I haven't had a poo leak yet) and hopefully I won't have to buy any more diapers.

Just wanted to share a momma with a VERY unique diaper, it's very adjustable.

I haven't bought these or used them since I make my own, I was searching for some other ideas when I stumbled across her design.

You should definitely check her's out at http://www.tkcuddlers.com/index.html

Hello everyone,
Thanks for all the responses and helpful info. I will definitly research the diapers recommended - I really appreciate the insight about one-sizes proibably not fitting until 10 pounds, so we'll need to prepare for that!
Thanks again,
Kathryn

OOOH I have a whole collection of os dipes. I use fitteds and for a small baby I really liked the bella bottoms or the growing greens. I also have a NB stash and infant prefolds until the bellas or gg fit. My small babies need the small dipes. Larger babies I haven't really had to resort to infant / small size....

I've tried, I think, 6 major brands of one-size pockets and my faves are TinyTush for both fit and durability.

But I think I'm a fitted girl at heart. : )

Good luck with welcoming #2!! I will be also in about 5 weeks, so we must be due around the same time. Aug 15 for me! : Enjoy!

Thanks for the recent posts - I do like fitted too, but it seems like one-size will be more practical in the long run. I'm trying not to get to caught up in the cuteness factor of cloth dipes too - some are just so darn cute!

Tiny Tush Elite One-Size are the ones I like best currently. I do NOT think bumgenius are the way to go because they don't seem to hold up well at ALL, the aplix gets really nasty, and my 11 month old knows how to remove a velcro diaper. Tiny Tush diapers SNAP and he doesn't know how to get those off! They also have more adjustability. I have heard that a lot of people do NOT like the one size fuzzi bunz.

My favs were the one size Happy Heiney's. They allowed for the most room to grow, especially in the rise. My guy outgrew the o/s BG but continued wearing the HH until he was out of diapers. The HH fit great during the day with a single insert and also fit at night with 3 inserts.

My fav is Bum Genius 3.0 mine have been threw 2 kids they don't leak, fit all the age ranges very well, and with the microsuede on the inside by there tender skin it really pulls the moisture away so it feels dry which is very important since my kidlets have sensitive bums They are kinda pricey but I found 18 dipes to be more than enough for 1 child.

My ds is almost 3 weeks old and about 10lbs. The OS diapers that fit him now are BG's and SoftBums. Neither are too bulky, Imo, and neither type has leaked. They didn't work at first though ( he was 8lbs 11oz at birth, and didn't lose any).
The softbums get teeny tiny, but I didn't like the fit until his cord came off.
(The BG's I got from a friend- she'd used them for about a year and the aplix was pretty worn. I had them converted to snaps and I really like them!)

The Rumparoos I got (because I read they fit nb's well) are too bulky, and leak out. I haven't tried the Tiny Tush OS I have yet.

I must say, though, that I really like pf's and covers! I didn't think I'd like them at all, but they are easy (I just tri-fold, stick it in the cover and fan out the back- easier than a fitted+cover), trim, and leak-proof.

i must say i love motherease!
i only have 1, but if i could afford it I would have a full set!

I just made an os...rrp

i scaled it down to 85% and tried it on my potty trained son...he is 2 1/2 and 35lbs...jusy barely fit...a full size would fit great...hope this will be dd's one and only...until she grows into ds's old diapers
