Polar Bummis Question

So I've been re-vamping my stash for the new baby who is due in the next couple weeks or so....

Mainly, I've eliminated synthetics such as micro suede and stuff, and augmented my wonderful supply of motherease one size with a good bunch of infant prefolds and some bummis whisper wraps.

I would like to get a bummis polar fleece cover too I think, but I'm wondering if I should bother with a size small at all or jump to a medium? My rationale is that I tend to have largish babies (10 pounds give or take a little), and by the time the cord falls off, my babe could very well be at the tail end of the size small weight limit. Plus, I wonder if the fleece might be too hot for summer anyways, so a medium could come into play in the fall when it's cooler.

I'm also thinking of getting a small aristocrat wool cover. I have a big one that I use on my daughter and it's great...

What are your thoughts on the whole bummis thing? I did buy small bummis whisper wraps, but the investment is less on those so I wasn't worried too much if they only get a short period of use...

Thanks!

We used a polar bummis on DD when she was probably about 18 months old (so I can't offer feedback on the smaller sizing). It worked great for us! We were having leaks through night-time wool, but the polar bummis was bomber. And seemed to actually be pretty breathable.

I didn't like the bummis polar cover, I found it to be unnecessarily bulky and it held smells. I also think the size gap between small and medium bummis is huge! My (admittedly small and narrow-waisted) 11 mo is too big for smalls but the mediums swim on her. I can't see the medium fitting on any kind of newborn, even a big one!

The small Aristocrat would be totally worth it though. My 11mo is 17lbs and definitely has room to spare, it fits over a goodmama or a well-stuffed nighttime dipe without stretching, and it fit her when she was a 9lb two week old too.

Just my opinion, hope it helps!

I didn't care for the Bummis Polar cover either. Although the fit was fine, I also found that it retained odor too much for my liking.

Very good to know about the stink factor, thanks! (Considering that stink is part of the reason I'm getting rid of all my BG's and FB's this time around).

I am now thinking to forgo the fleecies altogether and invest in a couple or three good wool covers for nighttime.

With my daughter I've always found that she can wear cotton diapers and synthetic covers (like the whisper wrap or motherease airflow cover) all day and as long as I pop a wool cover on her at night, she stays rash free. Ironically, all the 'stay dry' options like the more expensive pocket dipes give her a rash inside of 24 hours!!!!
