Our dog passed away last night

Our dog Shayla passed away last night. We adopted her 8 years ago from a Rott rescue when she was about two years. She was fine just a couple weeks ago. Then her arthritis seemed to get worse, and she started limping on her front leg. She spent a day at the vet for exams, they put her on tramadol for the pain. She hasn't been the same since, she stopped eating very much, developed a couple hot spots, threw up a couple times and has seemed altogether down. My mom,(its actually her dog) took her to the vet again Thursday night to get checked. They put a cone on her and an antibacterial spray for the hotspot. She spent Thursday night at my parents and last night, they found her dead this morning. Everything happened so fast, and we just can't figure out what happened.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Could it be Lyme? To my understanding, it usually shows up first as lameness in one front leg. Could they still test her for you, just so you know?

My best to you and your family as you grieve her.

It could have been bone cancer rather than arthritis.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope it gives you comfort that she's not in pain any longer. Scary how it can happen so suddenly.

I'm so sorry. As hard as it is, try to take some comfort in knowing you did what you could and she knew she was loved.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. The more i think about it i feel like she must have contracted something that went undetected by the vet. My parents buried her right away so its too late for an autopsy.

Gingerstar, now that you mentioned and i read about the desease I am wondering if that wasn't the case. i can't seem to find any info about how fast the disease can progress to the point of being fatal, but she does seem to have so many of the symptoms. I think I will go to the vet and see if they can give me her last exam records, i'm interested to see if she had a fever.

Thanks again everyone
