We have had one of these for several years. I think it works great. It supposedly deals with bacteria, viruses, mold spores, more via generating a very low ozone, no more than you would find outside (not talking about places with smog and increased ozone in a bad way). But I have been hearing some bad press about them, but every time I have turned it off, someone in my house gets sick. We have a very old house, a huge dog, and a nasty dirt basement with probably tons of mold spores. So, I really think we need this, at least until we can finish getting the house fixed. But those who are against them say that the ozone is bad. But the company itself says that the ozone is very small and it's no more than you'd find outside. So who do you believe. Who knows. The government of California recommends against them. They are on this list:

So after I saw this of course I turned the thing off and panicked because I've had this thing in my living room for years. But of course, now it's been about a week and my youngest has sniffles and is stopped up and there is so much more dust around.
Here's more bad press:

Ugh.
If you use an air filter, what do you use?
