I was wondering how many of you use just plain water to clean them when you're changing your little ones diapers. I've gotten ahold of a site that has homemade wipe solutions and wondered if anyone uses their own or if you just use water. Thanks
Plain water most of the time. A wipes solution for if she's been in a wet diaper for a long time (car ride, etc), in the morning, or if there was a really bad poop. Maybe once per day. A small (8 oz?) bottle of Kissaluvs Diaper Lotion Potion concentrate has now lasted me 18 months and I've not yet used half of it. It smells nice too.
I use plain water. I have the Kissaluvs potion and sprayed it on myself and it STUNG. Granted, I mixed it with witch hazel. I would like to try mixing it with water and see how that goes. I sprayed it once on my babe and wondered why she cried. So then I tried it on myself. Never again with the witch hazel!!!
98% of the time I used just plain tap water, and it works fine. I' kept a bottle of solution in my bag for outings, though I didn't always use it. Even for going out, I'd often wet a handful of wipes under the tap and put them in a zipper bag. Good to go!
I like to use a wipes solution concentrate, The Homestead Company has some lavender free...which I like...I soak my wipes in them, enough for a couple days and put them in the warmer. I combine that with the spray I can make myself (they have alcohol free witch hazel-keeps it from stinging), to help with the bigger messes!
I generally use Baby Bits cubes - I just mix up one in a squirty bottle with warm water and then soak some wipes in it. Pretty easy, and I like the smell - that's the main reason I do it.
She's not in diapers any more, but I keep some pre-moistened cloth wipes on the toilet for after BMs - keeps things nice and fresh.
I used just water when DD was little though, and it worked just fine!
for us a spray or sitz bottle with water worked fine.
also, soaking fibers in water breaks down the fiber structure faster and shortens the length/life of your fabric product. Think about what water can do to rocks. Just a thought.
We used to use just water but dd was getting rashes. I started using HoneyChunks and no more rashes! Also I did a test - I wiped her butt clean of poop with just water. Then I got a clean wipe and put soap on it and wiped some more - and the wipe turned poopy yellow! So I really wasn't getting it clean with just water.
that line really helped with my son..i used mostly plain tap water, along with her diaper wipe companion and it was wonderful. i never had any real encounters with diaper rash or irritation and if i did, her product usually healed it up pretty quickly!!
We use water now. Our wipes are stacked on the shelf in the bathroom and we wet with each change. We can still leave DS on the changing table unattended at this point, but when we can't, I will def. switch to a wipe solution, most likely, to have the wet wipes at the changing table. The solution I liked previously was:
2 cups water
1tbs burts bees bath wash
1tbs apricot oil (burts bees)
couple drops of TTO
Also I did a test - I wiped her butt clean of poop with just water. Then I got a clean wipe and put soap on it and wiped some more - and the wipe turned poopy yellow! So I really wasn't getting it clean with just water.
