How to sell dipes?

I have a pretty decent NB/small stash of prefolds and covers that I want to sell. I have been on Diaper Swappers but can't really figure out how to do it. (Also, the Pay Pal stuff is confusing me. Do they charge me a % of what I charge the buyer?) Any tips are appreciated.

Is there a better place to sell? (I have 3 dozen prefolds-- orange & yellow GMD/ indian unbleached Cotton Babies, 5 NB covers 2 BSWW, 2 Thirsties, 1 Litewrap, 5 small covers of the same brands (all covers gender neutral), 2 snappis. All are new or nearly new. I only used the orange NB PFs and a few of the cotton babies. All are well prepped. The small covers are brand new, just washed once. All covers never in the dryer. All excellent condition--- basically everything a new mama would need for a good starter set of PFs.)

How do you sell? Is it a big pain? I don't think CDs would sell on Craig's List in my area.

Have you searched "cloth diapers" on your Craigslist? You might be pleasantly surprised at how many are offered in your area. Even if it is not popular, it doesnt hurt to try.

Diaperswappers is a good bet, you will just have to lurk around until you get a good feel for it. I believe there is a Q and A type forum on there that could help you out.

Yeah try craigslist, if your selling prefolds, i would really steer clear of having to ship them. Usually the shipping on them can be close to what you sell them for. Its a pita!

Where are you in TExas?

I can give you tips on how to sell and how much to list them for on DS if you want.

I would try craigslist first and then Diaper swappers if they don't sell.

But yeah, if it's prefolds and you can't find a buyer on CL I'd just keep them to use a rags, for dusting, etc. Not worth the cost to ship them, buyers can get a better deal going w/new ones.

Setting up a paypal account is easy, you can even request a debit card to get the funds instantly from online sales.

Yes. It's seriously sad here. Only 3 ads, and two of them are CDs as burp cloths only. I guess I live in Sposie-ville.

Bummer! I didn't think about this. I was thinking the flat-rate USPS boxes would work, but I guess they ARE pretty bulky. I'm in Corpus Christi.

Well, I do have 10 new/nearly new covers. I guess I could start there to try to recoup some money. Thanks!

I actually have bought CD's on craig's list. Same with my area only 3 listings. Good luck with your sale!

I've bought and sold dipes on Craigslist, and it's my preference to diaper swappers. If you can sell on CL, you don't have to worry about shipping or anything.

Even if you keep the prefolds, you could always sell the covers on DS.

Also, do you ever travel to visit family or in-laws? If so, post on their city's CL a week before you go and try to sell them there.

I don't think anyone's craigslist is exactly hopping with ads for cloth diapers. But that doesn't mean there aren't buyers. Listing on CL is free, so I would just take some photos and post and see if anyone bites. Post several times if it doesn't sell right away. Since CL is not that active with CDs it may take some additional time for a buyer to see your ad. My only caveat with CL is that you probably won't get as much money as you would on DS, but as noted with the prefolds you won't get much money after shipping anyway.

On DS if you don't have posts and feedback there, some buyers may feel uncomfortable buying from you. Post a little (they have lots of forums about family life etc) and reference your transaction feedback from ebay or another place so people can look you up to get a comfort level. Paypal does have a new fee structure now and yes, they now charge all sellers a fee of 2.9% of the purchase price plus a 30 cent transaction fee. You have to figure that into your asking price. And of course the cost of shipping has to be figured in also.

You can try to sell as a "lot" on DS but IMHO it's easier to sell singly. You could list all the items with their own individual price and then give a price break if someone purchased more than one item or the whole lot.

My only other tip is to take good photos (arranged attractively if you can) -- make sure the resolution is good and it's not blurry and the lighting is good etc. It has also helped me to give somewhat detailed descriptions of the items I am selling -- noting any stains or flaws or if relatively new, how many times you used it. That usually gives buyers another level of comfort knowing that you have inspected the goods closely.

I have had great success selling cloth diapering supplies on Craigslist, the MDC Trading Post, and the "Bargain Basement" at Baby Cotton Bottoms (a free trading place on my local cloth diapering shop's web site).

*Price items well

*Provide thorough descriptions of their condition

*Offer a picture or two

*Add a link to the manufacturer's web site for further information

HTH!

You may want to check out ClothDiaperNation if you're going to sell on a forum...
There is much less traffic there than DiaperSwappers, but that means you don't have to worry about your post getting lost or having to "bump" continuously.

You may also want to consider Spots Corner. You pay $2.50 to list for half a month, there is a lot of traffic, and it may be an easier route for you than a forum.
