What was the consensus on alpaca longies?

I know we've been through this, and I don't remember what the final verdict was. I'm knitting a gift for someone, she's specifying a need for warm baby things, and the cardigan is in artesano aran: a 50% alpaca, 50% wool blend. Can I use the same yarn to make matching longies, or will they not hold the moisture?

Oh, it's for a newborn if that informs your decision.

I made longies out of the same blend and they did not leak but were way too hot but we live in San Diego...if you live in a colder climate I think it should be fine

I knit DD a pair of 100%alpaca longies for under her winter dresses specifically for the reason that it is so warm! they aren't as absorbant-but mixed with wool they should be just fine!

I'd do it, but maybe just a soaker? Then get some cute little matching cotton yoga pants for babe's legs?

I never had leak issues with alpaca (though I lano'd the hell out of them!).

Christmas baby : I'm due the 17th.

I have some o-wool that co-ordinates with the colours I'm using for the jacket, so I'm going to use that and stripe the leftover alpaca in the legs.
