Help me with your experience!

Hi!

Brief introduction: we've been CD-ing our son since we brought him home from the NICU, so eight lovely months now. We've been through BumGenius AIO's, which leaked awfully for us, and Thirsties covers with BumGenius bamboo fitteds, which we didn't like because when we changed him he'd be really hot and humid underneath of the diaper. Now, we're trying the Bamboozle (which I love!) at night with a doubler and Imse Vimse wool cover, and prefolds during the day. The thing is that I hate the prefolds! DS is slender around the middle, but with chunkier thighs, and they wind up being way too bulky. He also can be a decently heavy wetter, and so prefolds' absorbency leaves something to be desired.

So, I'd love to get some help from you mamas and daddies! What would be a good (preferably natural fiber) diaper, with decent daytime absorbency, for a more slender baby? I'd like to use them with a home knitted wool cover (the Little Turtle Knits Ribby Wrap pattern), so the more slender the fit, the better.

Thank you so much, everyone!

You said you had problems with the BG AIOs, but if they weren't the organic ones, I would try them. They are pretty trim and absorbant (make sure you prep them by washing them a few times first). You've used BGs a couple of times, so I'm assuming you like the fit...? I love the fit of BGs for my skinny little DS, and am not a fan of snaps for him. I can't ever get the fit right.

I really like Sugar Peas 2-size hemp fitteds. They fit my petite ds well, and the hemp is really absorbant. Because of the design, they don't take forever to dry.

I really like the Dream-eze fitteds. They're 100% organic cotton with two sewn in soaker layers. It's low rise and pretty trim, and incredibly absorbent. We use it as our night diaper and combined with wool this is our bullet proof combo. If I use it during the day I usually go coverless at home, it is absorbent enough to do that.

I could only find seconds on the manufacturer's website -- maybe they discontinued the fitteds to focus on the AIOs? I have purchased seconds from them before and couldn't find anything wrong with them, they are $10 each.

ETA: Just noticed they only have smalls and larges in the seconds. Other retailers (for example, nickisdiapers.com) seem to be still selling the fitteds if you need a medium.

How about trying a OS fitted diaper like goodmama's or piddle poodles? They are made from bamboo velour, size adjustable, and absorbent. They would work well under a wool cover. I'm excited about using fitteds and wool for my new baby due here soon. I also didn't care for BGs when I tried the 2.0 for my daughter and want a more natural solution this time.
I am also intrigued by Softbums AI2s. They come with available bamboo soakers that snap into a reusable cover. They are size adjustable through the elastic in the legs, not just with snaps to adjust the rise. Good luck!
