So after losing my mucus plug Wednesday morning and time-able contractions kicking in Wednesday late afternoon. My beautiful baby girl arrived Friday night.
Wednesday morning i woke up around 2:30am with strong contractions, went into the living room and tried to time them but they were too sporadic to make it worth it. 5:30am I went to the bathroom and had my bloody show, I told my husband that baby was probably coming in the next few days. I ran a couple of errands and went home to rest. By 11:30am I was having time-able contractions coming 8-12 minutes apart, they stayed in that pattern until 5:00pm that evening, when they picked up to 5-6 minutes apart. After dinner DH and I decided to go for a walk and see what was going to happen! They continued to be strong and frequent until about 10:30pm when they just fizzled out of nowhere, so I decided to go to bed and get some rest, knowing that either way something was bound to happen soon.
About 3:30am on Wedensday I woke up with strong, painful contractions, after 4 or 5 I decided to go to my living room and pull up the online contraction timer, after 1.5 hours of trying to distract myself through contractions I realized that the contractions were registering at 3-5 minutes apart, and lasting well over a minute each. So I told DH that we were going to head to the hospital soon. We arrived at the hospital around 7am. They hooked us up to a monitor to see how baby was doing, and did an internal exam. They said my cervix was behind the baby's head and couldn't be more than 2cm, so they sent us home at 10:30 am saying, 'get some rest, I'm sure we'll see you back here soon'.
I was really discouraged as I had been having contractions for the better part of 24hours. Sobbing as we headed home, I told DH that I was tired beyond belief and how would I continue this until baby came.! We went home and they contractions were still coming about 5 minutes apart. I still did try to get some rest, and managed to get an interrupted nap for about 4 hours. After the sort of nap, I went for another walk and the contractions piked back up. This continued in the same pattern much like the night before, by 10:30 they were slowing down again and I just had this overwhelming feeling that I was going to need all of my strength very soon, so one more day of feeling defeated and off to bed I went.
This time instead of waking up to contractions in the wee morning hours, my waters broke at 2:45am! At least I knew this meant baby was really coming and this wasn't some cruel joke on my body! I labored for an hour or two at home and then we headed to the hospital. When I arrived I was still only at 3cm! So depressing. By 1pm I opted for the epidural, wow! Talk about relief after 2 days of laboring I was so tired! At 7:15 my midwife came in checked and said, "Ok you can push now" 2 hours and 19 minutes later my baby girl was finally here!
I did have a 3rd degree tear that is slowly healing, but this little girl latched on immediately and loves to nurse!
We finally came home at 1pm on Sunday!
