Meat thawing question

I put deer meat in the fridge to thaw. I sorta forgot about it, been sick, this was 2 days ago. I saw it tonight and started it cooking right away.

The meat still had some ice on it so I am thinking that it was perfectly fine to cook and eat. Am I right in this thinking? Or am I going to get food poisoning? Since I am sick my sense of smell is not there but I had dd smell it and she said it just smelled like deer.

I love meat but always worry I will mess it up some way either not cook it enough or cook meat that is not good in the first place.

How long is it safe to wait after thawing out meat to eat it?

I would totally eat that. I have no firm answer as far as how long - but I would think up to 3-4 days kept in the fridge after having been frozen would be good for me (that's about how long the meat I buy fresh has for expiry date and if I've frozen it straight away I figure it still has enough days left to eat if that makes sense).
