Random hives?

My 4 1/2 month old gets a random hive or two (usually on her legs) that will pop up and go away. She has been pooping a lot lately and is sometimes fussy while nursing and getting the poop out. For the most part, though, she is happy and very pleasant. I don't really know how to figure what is causing the hives or whether the frequent stools are related. She just pooped for the fifth time in 7 hours, to give an idea of frequency today. Any ideas?

No ideas, eh? Guess I'll look into an elimination diet to see if it's something I'm eating.

Did you ever figure out what caused the hives? My 2.5 month got hives, seemingly from no where. No change in my diet or activities, yet she is covered in hives.

Sometimes it takes a while for a food allergy to show up. Hives are a serious reaction though, and I would see an allergist asap and get an epipen. Dairy is the #1 allergen for babies (followed by soy, gluten, eggs, corn), so that would be a good place to start. Take it out of your diet for at least a couple weeks (watch for hidden ingredients- I have them listed on my blog), and keep a detailed food journal.

eta: come on over to the Allergy forum.
