we are having a pretty bad mealy bug problem in our area - they seem to be on about every fourth plant all over town. they got my potatoes so bad that i decided just to harvest what i could, even so several spuds had started to rot. i sprayed my container tomatoes with an organic insecticide, but i don't think it got all of them - you could see the big ones jumping off while i was spraying. don't know if i'll lose those plants or not.
:
anyway, now i'm debating if i should plant something else in the potato boxes this fall or not. i'd like to plant some carrots in there and see if i have better luck than in the ground, but i don't want to waste my time if they're just going to get eaten the minute they come up. anyone have any experience with these bugs? they seem to really prefer some plants over others. will they destroy my carrots? tia
