WHEN will they ever ripen? - Page 2

This is a piggy-back question to tankgirl's Q about whether there would be enough time to ripen...
Do any of you start to prune the new flowers at the end of the season to concentrate nrg on ripening fruit? Say, 4-5 weeks before first frost? Or, are you all optimists and believe that the season will never end?

When we reduced the water that the tomato plants were receiving they started turning within days. Even with the hot, hot (95-100+ weather). I've gotten over 80 tomatoes off my one regular plant and it's got to be close to 1,000 if not more from my cherry tomato plant. In fact, the cherry tomato has just sprouted about 100 new blooms over the past few days. : I live in northern CA so we can get a jump on our growing season earlier, my plants were in the ground in April.

We had a week of non-stop rain My tomatoes are very big and very green. Short of putting an umbrella over them, though, I'm starting to resign myself to the idea of green tomato chutney

Have you tried picking one and taking it inside to see if it ripens? We had a green one fall off the plant and DH brought it inside and put it on the kitchen counter. It ripened after a few days.
