Blogger Columns Help

So thanks to you mamas I figured out how to make a 3 column layout on Blogger. But now I am not sure if I like it. My photos are so much smaller and my posts tend to be photo heavy. It seems squished. When I look at 3 column layouts on type pad they seem to have more space/ larger photos. Can I fix this on blogger? Or should I go back to two columns and a long line of "stuff" on one side.

I am a moron when it comes to code or anything technical, I can barely get posts on as it is, so any tips are appreciated!
Thanks!

Did you widen your page when you added the columns? That will help with the squished look.

This site might help. I'm not 100% sure what I did. Scroll down on the link until you see the part that says: Scribe Template There's a box underneath. Find that on YOUR blog template and up the number under width. (In the link, each of the width categories is set to 700.) Hit preview, see if you like it.

*remember to save a copy of your blog code before messing around with it.

I don't think it looks that smooshed. The only place that looks a bit crowded is where the book nook widget runs close to the left margin of the post. Can you resize that widget and put some breaks in the title? I'm not great at code so I can't remember exactly how you might add some more padding between that sidebar and the post, but that's another idea.

I would suggest two things, though, if you really feel it looks crowded:

1) Decrease the width of your sidebars and add it to the main wrapper so that your posts are wider. That's what I did when I had a three-column template because I didn't like how narrow the posts were. I had one sidebar that was only 150px wide, and I used it mostly for link links, and if I put photos in it, I cropped them square. I think the other was only 175px. I don't see anything in your sidebars that would cause problems if you reduced them. Just a thought.

2) Resize the header photo (which you're probably already planning to do.)

I am viewing your blog (<-- for those who need a quick link ) on my iMac and nothing is squished. I should go check with DH's laptop.

But without looking, pear-shaped's suggestions are great!

I just took another look and have an easier suggestion for resolving the crowding at the top of the left sidebar: you could move the book nook widget to the right sidebar where it won't run into the posts.

Pear Shaped -- you are fabulous! Thank you! This question sat un-answered for so long I almost forgot about it! Thank you very much for the detailed suggestions and as soon as my head stops spinning (computer talk makes my eyes get all googly ) I am going to see if I can try what you described.

Thank you as well for the feedback! I think because I have an extra humongous laptop screen that perhaps in relation to my screen it seems off.
I am going to try to mess with it this weekend.

For me, it doesn't look squished

I think it looks good I changed my blog to three columns and thought it looked squished at first too, but I think it just takes getting used to, kind of like a new hair style
