What are some of your child's favorites? My kids are (almost) 4yo and 5yo.

My niece loves Skippyjon Jones. It's about a siamese cat who thinks he's a chihuahua.

Emily's Tiger
The Boy Who Grew Flowers (he showed real empathy during this story. Lovely)
We're Sailing Down the Nile (is still a favorite)
The Gigantic Turnip (loves, loves, LOVES this one still)

He also loved the Tacky books at that age (still likes them).
Another favorite was Grandfather Twilight.

Anything by Kevin Henkes -- these were HUGE favorites
Knuffle Bunny
Officer Buckle and Gloria (hilarious!)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
The Paper-Bag Princess
Anything by Elisa Kleven
the Frances books
Bats at the Beach
Various Mercer Meyer books -- There Are Monsters Everywhere, One Monster After Another, etc.
The Poky Little Puppy
The Little Engine That Could
the "If you give a mouse a cookie" series

My kid really likes series. I think he likes having familiar characters. So the Franklin books were a big hit. He's now collecting Berenstain Bears books.

I like Babar, but some people find the French colonial attitudes of "civilizing the barbarians" offensive.

Also, I enjoy Ox Cart Man.
