Anyone know anything about fruit trees?

There is an apple tree a few doors down but in the 7 years that I have lived there none of the tenants of the house (it's a rental house; probably had 5 different families live there since I've been here) eat the apples. One of the previous tenants had told me that the apples weren't edible because the tree hasn't been "sprayed"

Also, at my grandparents old house (which is now up for sale) there are several apple trees and my mother and uncle have encouraged me NOT to eat from it because it hasn't been sprayed either.

What exactly does that mean? Is it that much of a hazard?

TIA for any info.

We don't spray any of our trees and we always eat the fruit. I think alot of people don't like the number of bugs that are on unsprayed fruit but if you look, you can usually find plenty that don't have any bugs.

Yeah, it's just about the bugs. The apples are entirely edible (more so really - just ask the bugs), if they haven't been sprayed.

Yup, the apples themselves are just peachy fine. Its just that some/most wil have at least a worm or two - just think of it as extra protein!!

Wash the apples, cut around the worms... you will be fine! :

It's because since they're not sprayed/treated they're not the perfect supermarket apples with zero blemishes. There may be worm holes or whatever, but they're still totally usable. And hey, if the worms like 'em, that means they're good enough for human consumption.

You can cut 'em up and make applesauce, wash and squish into apple cider, whatever. That's pretty much what we do with our apples.
