Ack! Why is nothing working!

I need some night time diaper help for my newborn.

She is nearly 3 weeks old and we have been struggling with night time.

We are a cloth diapering family. Generally, we use prefolds during the day and Goodmama's at night. I change prefolds as soon as they are wet (I say this becase a cd friend of mine says she lets her kids do 2 or 3 pees in them). Anyways, my newborn is a frequent peer - think every 20-30 minutes. Tiny pees. DD#1 was a hold it and do big pees type of girl. So prefolds at night aren't working cause Im changing her then every 30 minutes. I tried the gm's on her - and they are WAY to big still. So we tried sposies, and she poos out the leg gusset *every* *single* *night*: even if I change her throughtout the night - the poo is too runny (as BF NB poo is).

My sheets are stained...and I need a night tiem solution.

I dont really have the money to buy a lot of other diapers. I dont really like pockets, and an AIO would definately be too big.

Help!

When we brought DS home from the the hospital post-premature birth and NICU stay, he was only five pounds. We used the XS BumGenius bamboo fitteds, and they worked really well, especially at containing runny breastmilk poop. I do remember them being expensive though...if you're only using them at night, maybe you wouldn't need quite so many? We also re-sold them successfully at 2/3 of the price we paid for them, so the initial investment was a large one but they wound up being not so bad.

I think i'd use the prefolds with a liner so her skin won't feel wet, and not change her so often at night. Alternatively, you could put a disposable on and cover it with your cloth options, bulky backup plan in action =D

DS2 was a poop out the leghole every night newborn too. I got a fancy blanket from lunapads, and we slept on that for MONTHS. I actually put a pul cover over a sposie for a while. only at night.

later we went to a hemp fitted diaper and a disana wool soaker. I am absolutely amazed at how it woorks. If you got 2 soakers, you could spot clean them and they'd be dry for the next night.

A friend recently gave me a rather easy knit pattern for soakers. I'm making one now.

I'd go with the prefolds too, perhaps doubling up if you find she's soaked by morning. Mine wouldn't sleep through a pee, even a tiny one, which was not fun. But if yours does, and she's not getting rashes, I wouldn't worry too much about her sleeping in a wet diaper. Alternately, put a fleece liner in there, unless you don't like synthetics to be against the skin. I found prefolds were the ONLY thing that would keep the poop in.

I am also a fan of the Bamboo BGs, but they are expensive. A few for nighttime isn't too bad. Otherwise, just double up the prefolds.

What I had been doing is putting a preemie prefold inside an infant one, but she leaked through those as well.

She doesnt get rashes, and doesnt care about being in a wet diaper - but because her poos are so liquidy when she soakes through them, she soaks my sheets in yellow, and her pj's as well. My child just has forceful poos..lol..forceful and liquid!

What kind of covers are you using, Mama? If you don't have them already, I would look for something with gussets - I like Thirsties, but there are other options, too.

I agree - double up the prefolds. As an alternative, I also like hemp doublers. I do think the fleece liners can be helpful for babies who are sensitive to wetness. I believe in changing regularly, but I won't wake a sleeping baby to change a pee diaper... I guess that's just preference (and survival!!).

For fitteds we've had great success with Sugar Peas 2-size hemp fitteds. Hold poo in well, very absorbant, and only come in 2 sizes, rather than a million.
