Dye your hair with indigo?

I have been doing some internet searching on natural hair dyes and have run across a couple of mentions for folks using henna AND indigo to dye their hair. I have used indigo as a dye for fabric and now it can be harsh.

I am just wondering if henna would be able to counteract that aspect of the indigo. I have multiracial hair. Has anyone had any experience - first or second hand with this?

I have caucasion hair & mine is thick but fine (individual strands) hair. I used henna once & my hair got very rough... straight, straight, straight & dry. I didn't like it for my hair type. I never use products or curling irons, etc, maybe that has something to do with my dislike, as my hair is usually pretty soft to the touch.

My hairdresser told me a year later (when i had it professionally dyed at Aveda - more natural dyes, they claim) that he's had mixed results with henna, depends on your hair type. Maybe go in to a salon & ask them how they think it would affect your hair type?? just an idea. It'll always grow out if you hate it though, right?! Indigo sounds so stunning!! wow

i have dyed my hair a bunch of times with henna. the only thing i don't like is that the color comes out differently with each batch. you can't be sure of the results. but indigo may help that. i have never used that.

www.mehandi.com is a really trustworthy site, imo.

Henna is known as a conditioner, so I am really surprised people have had bad reactions with it. Could be their hair texture. My whole family uses Henna (we have Caucasian hair) with excellent results. Never used indigo, but I did get some Black Mountain Henna (Mountain is the brand, or something Mountain... got it at a health food store) which I believe had indigo in it... I used it for Henna tattoos (and it came out a cool blue color, which I loved!)

Actually, I've been thinking of going blue/black... anyone know if Indigo is safe for women ttc? (I believe henna is).

alexisyael, I think you are referring to the Light Mountain brand.

I have to look into what the ingredients for their black henna is. That is my problem most of the time, no one really gives the ingredients of the products.

I am thinking about using Baking Soda & a Vineger or Rosemary rinse on my hair instead shampoo and I want to find a decent truly natural product to counter the lightening effects of the hair regime. I am looking into walnut dye too, but I think that will be too muddy.
