20 months too late to switch to CD?

Hi!

I have a 20 month old DD. She has been in disposables as she has been in a daycare setting that wouldn't cloth diaper. I have decided to quit work and stay home. :

I would love to switch to cloth. Is she too old? Will she hate them as she is not used to them?

Any thoughts are great!

no way!

any cloth is better than no cloth.

When I was ill and in a lengthy surgical recovery for 9 months I was forced to put both boys into disposables for 7.5 months. One just about pl'd in that time. But as soon as I was able to manage more of the household tasks I went back to cloth for over another year with my youngest until he too was pl'd.

by making the switch you reduce the toxins that are up agains your child -- any reduction is good imo.

Congrats on staying home! I don't think it's ever too late. We started at 14 months, and didn't have any problems with DS for the transition. Changing my routine was our only roadblock.

Keep in mind that any $$ spent, some of it can be recouped with reselling the diapers. And, each and every time you use cloth, you didn't have to buy a disposable, so even a little helps.

You aren't really going to be saving money at this point because even reselling you don't get back that much. However if you are doing it because of the chemical issues then sure, why not.

Any time is a good time to switch. Especially starting later, you won't have the NB explosive poop to deal with!!! Try a one-size diaper so you cam save it for future children.

I wouldn't think they'd bother your LO, although they may feel a smidge bulky at first. If money matters, the cheapest way to go would be prefolds and covers, but there are tons of other options out there. If you plan to have more kiddos, then you'll recoup your investment without question.

Definately lots of health and environmental benefits, though!

rightkindofme - i think the reason i want to do it at this stage of the game is only because i wanted to since she was born, and since we had her in the daycare we did, i wasn't able to. And honestly, I'm usually so defeated after work that I never had the umph to do it at home. I guess I feel like I am making up??

We are planning on more kids, so I dont mind the purchase. Are there benefits and drawbacks to certain diapers at this age? Are AIO better as she never sits still through a diaper change anyway?

At this age, I would recommend the trimmest, easiest, softest diapers you can afford. A pocket or AIO would be good. At this age I loved my Green Acre Designs b/c they can be pre-snapped and pulled up and down like underwear and were very soft and cool-looking for a toddler.

I can understand that. Cloth diapers are pretty fun.

I personally am a HUGE fan of one size diapers. I prefer them with snaps because the velcro wears out. Near as I can tell most of our stash of diapers is going to last for all of our kids and we don't have to buy multiple sizes. AIOs are a lot easier if your kidlet is a mover. They are also much more approachable for random other people. AIO is a specific term that means diapers with everything built in. I use primarily pocket diapers (because I want one size diapers) and they are a little more work at laundry time because you have to stuff them with the inserts but when it comes to diaper changes they are just as easy as AIOs. I find that AIOs are a pain in the butt to dry--they take forever. Pockets are generally good to go with just one time through the drier on the regular setting.

I think you should go for it! I started kind of late too -- started night diapering in CDs when they were 10 months and went full time CD when they were 14-15 months. They are now 27 months and still in dipes, though increasingly interested in the potty. It has been a lot of fun for me and I really have enjoyed it as an experience. Like you I wanted to do it from the time they were born but for one reason or another just did not. I'm really glad I did it and I almost wish I had another one to CD from the start but I don't think we are having any more kids.

Holy crap she pees a lot!! WOW. Lol.

I just grabbed some on sales prefolds and a couple velcro covers (bummies maybe?). I used the little claw thing and put it on like we learned in Bradley classes. She peed 30 min later. Leaked. Changed, 15 min later, peed again. Leaked. 40 min later, more pee.

I think I need to do this better than I am, lol.
