shrieking--it has to stop. but how???

my 3.5 year olds have taken to shrieking, and it makes me want to smack their faces. i am not going to, but it makes me that angry. i can tell them to stop till im blue in the face, but it continues to happen. i just don't know what to do. they do it at dinner, randomly during the day, to wake the bay up (and say "im going to wake eli"), to scare away birds or squirrels (that don't hear them anyway), etc. i can't think my way out of this. what's the logical consequence?

Wish I knew. Mine does it all.day.long. Makes me crazy. That, and stomping. I don't think the boy knows how to do much of anything quietly. Other than sneak out of his bed. lol.

Couple ideas:

1. The best parenting tool some days: Ear plugs. It makes me a much nicer mom

2. We redirect DD to go on the front porch there, we let her scream all she wants. Often there another toddler down the street doing it to and they just respond to each other for 10 minutes or so.
