Adding Snaps or Velcro to Prefolds?

I plan to use prefolds and covers. I won't use pins and while seemingly safer (for me!), snappis make me nervous (will I be able to easily figure it out without harming someone?).

I'm wondering why people don't do a prefold diaper, add their own snap or velcro, and then put on a cover. Am I delusional to think this would work in place of a snappi or pin and also be more secure than just laying a prefold in a cover? I very well may be since I'm new to this.

(I was hoping to do something simple. I saw the tutorials on turning a prefold into a fitted, but I'm looking for something much less involved.)

Thanks in advance.

This is a great idea. I will definitely try it. (Methinks you're telling me my snap/velcro on prefolds is a horrible idea. Hahaha! )

I think that the velcro or snaps on a prefold would seriously limit how you could use that diaper - it wouldn't fit in as many ways as it would if you left it alone.

And i second that - try a snappi on a doll. It's easy. You get better with practice, but really, after a couple of tries you will be fine. Just stretch it out a few times before you use it to loosen it up.

The other thing to consider is that depending on the type of cover you use, you may not even need a snappi. Last time around, we used the newspaper fold with our prefolds, laid them in the cover and snapped (or velcro-ed) the cover onto DD. It worked like a charm and we never needed a snappi!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am determined to try the snappi, at least. I'll go from there.

i outfitted them with a wide band of velcro and then longish velcro closures. i also added elastic to the legs and rarely needed a cover.

with the snaps...you should really do sew on's because i did press on's and they kept coming off. to me, the sew on's are a PITA but i'm going to get my gma to show my how to do them with a special foot on the sewing machine.
