First time dealing with yeast - lots of questions

I've only bee CD'inf for the last 3 months (dd is 4 months) and last week she had her first bout of dirrehea and had diaper rash, following her first camping trip for the fourth of july weekend. Dirrehea went away but rash got more severe. I used Earth's Best Organic or Arbonne creme with g diapers or put a barrier (such as cloth wipee) in between diaper and creme, washing separately (now I'm thinking this wasn't such a good idea). No difference with creme, in fact, it seemed to get worse. Saw Dr. today, who thinks it is yeast and prescribed nystatin.

Here's some background info to prep my questions:

I only have organic cotton or hemp diapers, about half bum genius organic and other half is a mix of prefolds, caboose, and diaper wraps. Imse vimse organic or handmade wool covers.

My usual routine, which I still did during illness was pre-washed cold, washed hot, and then warm rinse (I can't do a hot rinse on my machine), then line dry in sun, then back in dryer for 10 minutes to soften. I only use ECOS Free and Clear detergent. I make wipe spray from organic apricot oil, distilled water and chamoille tea. She's never had ANY rash whatsoever before this.

Sorry this is so long, and now, here are my questions! Thanks in advance Mamas!

1.) Does anyone know if yeast can just be a normal follow up to dirrehea or have I somehow caused/contributed to it through my wash routine? Am I doing this CD thing right?

2.) Right now, baby is in sposies and just got her first application of nystatin (although I just read in a forum search about TTO, so I'm going to try that tomorrow instead). Either way, does she need to stay out of cloth all together until all gone and not using any creams/oils or can I just buy a roll of paper barrier and continue with cloth? What is the reason for no creams/oils?

3) Do I need to do anything different with my wash routine or boil/strip diapers to makes sure there is no further yeast or bacteria from dirreahea? I have never bleached and because everything is organic, I really don't want to do that.

4) How long has your LO been out of cloth because of yeast? Dr. indicated it could "take a while" to get rid of rash.

Thanks SO Much! Again, sorry so long and with lots of questions~

I'm not 100% sure what causes it. DS gets it after diarrhea every now and then. It's not your or the dipes. It happens to all babies.

The no creams and oils is because they can affect diapers' absorbency or stain them. There are a few creams (California Baby and Grandma El's) that are okay. I just bought some Grandma El's and LOVE it, but it is pricey. You should be fine with a paper liner.

Here's a good resource for creams: http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.co...rashcreams.htm

I would make sure to strip the diapers you wash during the yeast, and all of them after it's cleared up. I usually just strip with Dawn and sun the diapers.

DS was out of cloth for a few days while the rash was at it's worst, and I was stripping dipes. We put him back in as it was clearing up with cream and paper liners.

Thanks Gabes Mommy for taking the time to reply to all my questions! I really appreciate it. Going to order some paper liners now and go out tonight for TTO and gdiapers in the meantime. She's been in disposables this morning and we've already had three blow outs. Ugh! Looking forward to getting back into cloth! Thanks for the info!

I just finished my battle with a persistent yeast rash so I can answer some of these.

I would stay out of cloth all together. Add in bare bottom air time daily if you can. Since you started nystatin, please stick with it. DS had yeast from 2 weeks to 9 weeks, and I started it at 4 weeks for two days and gave up b/c it got worse. I should have stuck with it because it wasn't until I went back to it at 7 weeks that it cleared up (again, after getting a little worse after a copule of days but I pressed on, did every other change with it). I did TTO, oregano oil, vinegar in bath, and GSE, and nystatin was the only thing that worked. We never had thrush, thankfully. We just got back to cloth a week and a half ago after 7 weeks sposies. We used a barrier cream on top of the nystatin after it was rubbed in and I used a hair dryer on cool to dry his bottom with each change.

HOT drying should take care of it and a hot wash. If you have grapefruit seed extract, that should help in the wash.

Above...and I kept him out of cloth for about 2 weeks after it looked cleared up, and I had used the nystatin for 2 weeks. A pharmacist said I can use it again if it comes back. When I put him back in cloth, he appeared to get rashy, but it cleared after a day or so and he's fine now.

I recommend giving him a good infant probiotic. I got this one and still give it to him. I also looked into treating the yeast in myself and got into the huge topic of leaky gut and gut health. He had some die off in his diaper for a while (black flecks) which I believe was dead yeast from his gut.

Thanks mamas! I'm going to heed the advice about sposies and stay out of cloth for now (you caught me just as I was about to order liners bc I HATE the sposies) but I suppose it's better to stick with them and nystatin and get back in cloth sooner than later and avoid ruining my stash!

Appreciate the time you all took!

Hope it clears up. Does the rash have red dots?

Hope it responds to the nystatin, let us know how it goes. The sposies are good not only to preserve your dipes when using a barrier cream, but the rash will heal sooner.

Hope you get it cleared up quickly.

This is what I don't understand...DD has a probably yeast diaper rash and the dr said to follow the nystatin with a barrier cream, but the nystatin doesn't really rub in, and thus the barrier cream won't stick. Am I using too much nystatin?

Any advice on layering would be great....Thanks!
