Grade 11 - Immunizations required

Hi

We are migrating to Canada soon and need to find out which immunizations are required for our child entering into Grade 11 in Halton district Ontario, so we can be sure they are already done or if not, to request/get the vaccinations next week at the doctor's appointment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, Canada does not require any vaccines for school entry. (neither do 48 of the states in the US)

Ontario does require that an exemption be filed if you do not vax which is a simple process. Only 3 provinces require exemptions the rest don't require anything.

Does this mean Canada doesn't require a bunch of vaccinations for their kids? Or does it mean that by grade 11 they don't worry about vaxes?

I'm very curious about that, since everyone in the US seems to be so paranoid about nonvaxed kids, and some think that unvaxed kids 'spread diseases'....

HEALTH CANADA STATEMENT ON IMMUNIZATION
"Unlike some countries, immunization is not mandatory in Canada; it cannot be made mandatory because of the Canadian Constitution. Only three provinces have legislation or regulations under their health-protection acts to require proof of immunization for school entrance. . . . "

And in those provinces you can choose to file an exemption. I know that when DS 1 was born he was put on a registry and I got calls from the Local health unit to make appointments to bring in my son to get vaxes. There is a vaccination schedule too and they all differ by province. When DS started grade one we got a form from them through the school stating the vaxes he was behind on. I just signed the form saying that I didn't want him to receive them at this time. The pressure is still there from society and doctors even though they are not at all required for school. Though some people still seem to think they are.

I would too, if it wasn't so darn cold up there, ha ha!

I wonder if the rate of autism is lower in Canada, or do they have a high rate of vaccination there too?

Just because it's not legislated doesn't mean people don't vax. I don't actually know anyone who doesn't vax IRL, at least not that they have admitted to me.

World Health Organization, say immunization rates should be well over 90 percent. Canadian rates fall short of that goal:

* 74 percent for pertussis (whooping cough);
* 61 percent for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, Hib, measles, mumps, and rubella.

At the bottom there is a section on Immunization rates.

Do you feel he is lacking any particular vaccine? Has he displayed any symptoms? How has he managed to do without whatever vaccine they recommend up to now?

Research the issue and don't just inject. It could be a very detrimental act.

I grew up in the Halton district and there are no mandatory vax. The exemption form is available online (not sure of the link off hand, but should be easy to find) and it's all that should be needed for enrolment.

I'm not in the same district anymore (further North in Simcoe county) but for my DD I didn't even mention vax until the first day of school when I handed them the form. Nothing was said to me about it.
