How much do your Homebirth Midwives charge?

I met with my midwives yesterday. I guess my insurance won't cover a home birth. The midwives charge $3600 for total prenatal and birth care.
Is this a standard rate? How much do your midwives charge?

My midwife charges $25 for each prenatal visit and $600 for delivery. I'm responsible for buying my own supplies which should cost around $200, but she provides the basics (birth pool, fetoscope, scale to weigh baby, etc...)

She's a DEM or lay midwife, I believe they tend to charge less, however that is not why we chose her.

$3,700 here.

But the last one 5 years ago in a different state (TX) was "only" $2,000.

$3,000 for prenatals and delivery. I also pay the fees on tests she can't run herself (ultrasound, for example), so probably another $300 or so.

$2500 for prenatals, postpartums, and delivery. We have to buy our own birth supplies and a birthing pool if we want it.

She also doesn't offer much testing, beyond urine strips and hemoglobin.

She is a lay midwife too, I suppose it might be different if she owned or worked out of a birth center or worked through a clinic or hospital.

Mine does this exactly - $2500 for all appointments and the delivery. We had to get all our birthing supplies (ended up being around $50). Also doesn't do much testing - that didn't include an ultrasound, GD, GBS, etc.

$3600 does seem like a really high price. considering all we do is meet once a month and basically chat, and then they attend the birth.

some around here charge almost $5000 (eta they're CNMs not CPMs/LMs)

I've heard that $3500 or so is pretty standard. My midwife charges $2200 and I've heard from homebirth parents that that is pretty low compared to most.

It doesn't seem all that high to me. If seeing a doctor in the hospital you could expect to pay about $200 or more for each prenatal appointment, a few thousand for standard tests and ultrasounds, about $6,000-15,000 for the birth and hospital stay (if no complications), and then extra for more postpartum visits.

So 3600 for a full course of care seems like a real steal to me.

FWIW, the fee before insurance for the hospital mws I'm using this time is around 3000. That doesn't include testing or hospital fees, just the mw fee for prenatal care.

Mine charges $4200... our insurance covers $2500 of that.

1800 for cpm in baltimore

Good to know mine are in the normal range. I think everything costs more than I expect it to these days!

DS was born at home in CA with two DEMs/CPMs. We are planning a HB in IL with a CNM (the only type of MW legally allowed to practice in IL). Both charge about the same price you were quoted.

My MW gives an early payment discount- the cost basically increases $100 every 4 weeks after 20 wks.
For a mom who's had a vag delivery, it's $2700 paid by 20 wks, or $3200 after 36 wks.
For vag delivery first timer (incl. VBAC) it's $3200 paid by 20 wks, or $3700 after 36 wks.

Her fees include basic prenatal labs, supplements (incl. Greenlife, calcium pills, and flax oil capsules), and birthkit. I think it's a good deal!

Our midwives charge $3600 for prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. They discount it down to $2800 if its paid in full by 36 weeks. Its a real bargain for what they do.

Wow, we're really getting a deal. Since we paid early, before 36 weeks, we paid $2,000. This includes all the prenatal visits, the delivery and birth kit (not a labor tub, if you want one), and a couple of post-partum visits. She doesn't do the labs or ultrasound, so we have our CNM order them for us, which our insurance pays most of. After the birth, our MW will submit the bill to our insurance, so we expect to get some of our money back at that point, too.

We used the same MW with our last birth, six years ago, and only paid $1,200, so $2,000 seemed like a lot at first.

Around here, the range seems to be from $3800-4500. My MW charges $4000, as do most of them.
